My mom had a thick southern accent when she moved from Alabama to Connecticut as a teen. She says she just concentrated very hard on her speech. Today no one in New England has ANY idea she was every from the south. Her accent is completely gone. Really, it just takes time and a lot of practice. Good luck! :)

Immitate another accent to get away from the one you have. Hopefully mix up until lost and start following the accent of the language/area you are in.
