what are we to make of humans who claim that only god is infallible ?

If by "infallible", you mean that He's the only one who doesn't sin, then yes, God is the only being who is infallible.

Tie them up and squish them in deck chairs ...! Well, it would be sad if God weren't infallable, because God is God. If we were infallable, we could call ourselves God too, but we're not, so that's why He gets the title. Go have a sandwich and calm yourself down! Asking questions like that at the weekend?!
