Of course religion is real. You may not believe in it, but you don't have to. I strive to make the world a better place on a daily basis. At the end of our (daughter and I) evening prayers, you too are included as I say 'God Bless Everybody in the Whole Wide World.' That's what's wrong with the world today, there are very few that try to live by the Ten Commandments. Everyone wants to fit in, so they give up any morals they've been taught and let those commandments slip their mind...

I do not understand where religion plays into government.
Religion was based upon metaphysical beliefs of ancient times, not on any type of current religion branch.

Much like the polytheistic beliefs of the ancient peoples such as Egypt and Asia, the religion was of what people thought were holding destinies on earth, not of total control because not everyone had the same beliefs if they were in the same area.

I do see how the controlling aspect of religion could play into government powers, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the whole virtues of the 10 Commandments were of government power (if that's in your question, I'm still kind of unsure what the 10 commandments have to do with the government).

It's nice that you bring up such an original question to debate and answer (especially about religion, where people are very much true to what they feel). But perhaps if you don't like what people are saying, that you and them should lull your semantic noise and really understand each viewpoint. There are going to be people on here that say "what a stupid question" or "youre stupid". But you shouldn't listen to them. This was an honest question and perhaps cannot be answered.

Hope i answered your question correctly!
:)

The Bible has a unifying theme, that God wants relationship with people. The point of the 10 commandments is that God was handing down the law, this is what you must do to be in my presence, and Jesus raised the bar, if you even look at a woman with lust you have already had her. The point is that we can't ever live up to it, the only way in is Christ. Jesus fullfilledthe law so that we can walk boldly into the presence of God.

Much of what we now know as law originates in the Bible, so part of the answer to your question is yes, the 10 commandments are the beginning of government. The thing of religion now is that it is meant to help us govern our hearts. It isn't about control, though, it is about relationship.

Jesus is the answer, not religion. I found him when I searched for truth. He said, I am the way, the truth and the life. No man can come unto the Father but by me. I simply told God if he was really real, I would live for Him. I told Him that I believe that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for me and that He was raised on the 3rd day so that I could have a new chance at life. He answered me from heaven! I felt the blood washing of Jesus. My whole entire body became like a washing machine at that moment of surrender. I literally felt the heavy weight of sin lift off of my shoulders. I have found the Holy Bible to be my dearest instruction manual for this new life. I had this experience in 1974 and I have never been the same! It is still the greatest MOMENT OF MY LIFE. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

In a way, you've got a point. According to the Bible, when there was no leader - Moses went up the mountain - when he came down, all hell seemed to have been let lose. All of a sudden, he had the 10 commandments and was able to control the rabble. So, it could be interpreted to mean the first form of government, yeah.

Yes religion is real. It all derives from the same core beliefs that were created well before christ. Religion was separated among the nations with the tower of babylon. However some of these religions have been used for political gain. Much of europe through the medival and rennaisance period used religion and the pope as a political power. Also the church used itself as a power blackmailing kings to build them churches. The spanish inquisition was an occurance of religious overuse of power. Hitler was using religion as power and control. Our government uses christianity as power and control though we are supposed to separate government from religion. Muslims in the middle east use their beliefs as control creating martyrs and false hope that killing people will get you women as long as you die too.

Religion in itself is pure and good but man twists it to their own ends. Religion is so powerful they learned that they can use it as mind control. The romans were the only people who became a huge power without using control of religion. No religion in itself is controlling and no religion provokes violence. People create these things.

yeah the ten Commandments. They are real and they are from Gods mouth. The government has nothing to do with religion at all.

Hahaha! Yes, the government has a time machine, and they went back a couple thousand years and payed off Moses to create the 10 commandments so that a few thousand years later they could prevent us from killing eachother, cheating on our spouses, lying, worshipping false Gods, etc. But wait, people still do that... well, there goes your conspiracy theory!

No matter what you think....in a civilized society there has to be rules and boundaries.....even in the ones where you think that no one is in control...someone will always be in control........and government does not encourage religion down our throats.......i think religion is something that an individual needs to make up for himself........and one day someone is usually looking for some kind of spiritual guidance....
