Never heard of it in India. May be some family thing or local belief of Trinidad.
BTW, How much of it she ate daily ?
Are you sure it was raw rice and she was not making fun of you.
Rice is a staple diet in many parts of world and its eaten in too many forms, roasted, beaten, puffed....boiled, fried....
In Some places they do make a kind of sweet dish in which some quantity of raw rice flour is used.
If a cross can ward of evil so can rice anyway. who cares. why are you so hung up on it .

Probably not it is just rice. But cultures tend to come up with myths about their environment based on how they perceive things. It probably made those that eat rice healthier then ones that did not at one time and so the myth became a kind of fact. Many times too things that a mother would say to get their kids to eat would become a myth of sorts. Religion (from the sociological viewpoint) makes its followers use certain traditions to bring about conformity and cohesiveness in a group. This could be an example of that.

If you mean that your friend says that eating raw rice wards off evil spirits, it may be that such a belief may be a cultural thing. You didn't elaborate if she is East Indian or Native American.

What you eat has nothing to do with evil spirits. Because she is Indian also has nothing to do with anything. The Lord Jesus Christ died for all if they would believe in what He done for them. If you have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross then you have the Holy Spirit dwelling in you and you are the temple of God and no evil spirit can harm you. 1 Corinthians 3: 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Nope. And it's really hard to digest that way. Don't try this if you have diverticulitis. Washing rice used to be a big thing because sometimes the packagers added substances (for example talc) to stop the rice from soaking up moisture.

Magic, from my point of veiw, is a crutch. Not that it doesn't work.
But that our spirit doesn't need all these props. It is the easy way
to gain the use of ones spiritual power. And it has it's price.
