I am a Christian and do not consider myself a brain dead zombie without independent thoughts. On the contrary. I happen to question my religion, right down to it's very roots. I attended catholic schools my whole life and was always taught NOT to question the teachings, and I think that 'ruined' me as an adult. Now i question everything. I disagree with the fact the Catholics were part of the crusades and they killed opposing religions. I dont beleive in the holy trinity. I beleive Jesus is the son, and God is Jesus' father and the Holy Spirit is an entirely separate entity. The catholic church teaches they are one in the same. Impossible, I say. So, not all christians are without personal thought. Are you a christian? And if so, if you want answers to questions, I suggest reading the bible. The bible is the only true religion, wether its the King James version, or the Koraan, or whatever other religions call their 'holy book'. In my opinion, religions are man made and corrupted with idealogies of man. So, with that being said, since man wrote the bible, how do we know that the bible is what we are taught it's supposed to be? That would be faith, I guess.

As someone who was raised christian, went to church every Sunday, was hard into the beliefs, denounced christianity is little more than a cult... I know what you mean. I still believe in God and I believe Jesus was real and I do read the bible. However the christian views on the bible are so warped that it's not hard to understand why Islamic terrorists do what they do.

They are brainwashed. Most of what they say isn't really in the bible and the things that are in the bible are badly misinterpreted. Christians think they are the only ones who have it right. They aren't. At one time all religions were one religion. Remember tower of Babylon? All religions derive from one basic religion. From that point they were either changed by man or by God. We won't know which until we meet God. I consider it cruel and evil to say a good person with a good heart will go to hell just because they don't believe the christian view of Jesus. You all misinterpret Jesus' words and teachings. I have heavily studied the bible since I was a child. Why do you think there are so many christian denominations? Why do you think a christian can be so relentless and cruel to others and then say they are christian. Everything christians do go against their own beliefs. Most christians are hypocrites.

You will reap the hate you sow.
And for the record, I am not a Christian. I have known some very enlightened Christians in my life. And some not-so enlightened ones, that still had good works to accomplish. And some whose ideas were not so independant, showing that they have lessons still to learn. You lump them all together in a nice little package, but this is not befitting. That is like the status quo lumping me in with sadists and demonists. I am neither, and still I am Pagan. But still the status quo will lump me in with those, because they DON'T UNDERSTAND me or my beliefs, and don't WANT to understand. I think you fall into this same category. To say that 'everyone knows' they are 'brain dead zombies with no independant thought' is totally stupid. When you consider the fact that they are in the majority, you cannot say that "everyone knows." and furthermore, who is brain dead with no independant thought? the one who searches for enlightenment, or the one who cries that they have no worthwhile opinion? You do not have to agree with them, oftentimes I don't. However, their opinions are as worthwhile as mine or yours, and to say they aren't is totally disrespectful. You have to give respect before you get it. Is my opinion more worthwhile for not being Christian, or less worthwhile because I don't agree with you? The struggle is all about hearing opinions of those who believe differently. How else are you to spiritually evolve? (That's saying you see the need. I am shaking my head, because I don't think you see it.)
Blessed Be to you anyway. You'll need all the help you can get, hate-monger.

You lying idiot. Christians are NOT brain dead zombies. Most if not all have very good jobs. Whether it is a hotel desk clerk or the president of some corporation. Get a life.

Are you the 'everyone'?

Though the 'old nature' in me feels enraged by your thoughtless comments, the spirit man in me cooled me down and asked me to forgive your ignorance.

Sorry lad, I'm not rising to the bait.

In my opinion, those who have no independence are the ones who are chained the love of the things in this world, such as yearning for status, recognition, designer products and other material comforts etc.

As a Christian, I do not covet such things but I know that I am worth more than such things.

""He is no fool who gives up up he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot

Nevermind what you think. I know who I am and how God sees me. That is all that matters.

I have more important and meaningful things to do than worry about biased comments about my belief.

May God bless you. May His peace be with you always.

Oh, golly, I don't know. Maybe because Christians don't lump everybody together as a group and assign individuals the errant qualities of an entire group? Perhaps because Christians understand that individuals have different things to say instead of just one thing to say? In other words, perhaps Christians answer your questions because they think you are ASKING a question and don't already know what answer you're looking for...and because they are open-minded and believe that when people ASK they are SEEKING SOMETHING that they don't already know?

Just hazarding a guess here.

What kind of a fool goes to a category he does not believe in and then complains when "experts" in that category answer him?

Do you also go to the healthcare category and ask medical questions and then berate the doctors who answer?

Do you go to the law enforcement category and ask law questions, then malign the law experts who answer your question?

Here's a clue for the clueless. Yahoo set up the Q&A so that inquirers could categorically ask questions and receive answers.

No offense, but DUH!

It's fine if you think all Christians are brain dead zombies. But, if that bothers you, stop asking questions here!

Again, really, no offense, but DUH!

Because they think they have all the answers, and they can't help it. Its hard for them to admit they might be wrong. There is no room in their belief system for doubt. Which is fine, they can go through life thinking they have all the answers as far as i'm concerned. What chaps my *** is when they push their idealology on to the rest of us, and they assume we don't have the brains to accept or reject the bible based on reason and fact.

you judge , where judgment is false of your words. there are many open minded independent thought Christians. its a matter of the subject at hand. for instants when one man looks at a scripture differently from others that in itself is a independent thought. if we didn't have independent thought there also wouldn't be so many religions. if we were Brain dead we wouldn't have so many business successful Christians. yes this is my opinion, my independent thought. thanks

And tell me why do YOU have a worthwhile opinion?

Give me an intelligent answer to this and I may consider you to be intelligent...I'll be waiting!!!

And in the meantime...stop generalizing all Christians or any religious folk for that matter...I dont generalize people like you (atheists/non-believers)...so I would like it if you did the same.
