to keep good samaritan's from being sued for trying to help.
For example you see a car wreck. You try to help save the driver, the driver dies anyway and their family tries to sue YOU for his death. That's the way I understand it anyway.
If that's wrong someone please correct me. I'd like to know for sure as well.

As the other person said, to protect those who ARE good samaritans from fools and ungrateful people.

so health care workers, EMS and well-intentioned bystanders can't be sued by the ungrateful people they're trying to save
