My mother was distant and kind of cold. I have a relationship with her still, but it is not the same as I see other people have with there kids. Now that I have a child of my own I plan to be the kind of mother to him that I wanted from my mother.

Adversarial. I grew up not knowing if my mother actually loves me, and to this day, I don't believe she knows how, or cares to.

However, I changed that with my daughters, and I know they know that I love them and support them in any way I can. I don't allow them to be dependent on me, I expect them to be strong women, do the right thing and do their best. I allow them to know always that they don't always have to know how to do something, and to screw up as well. God knows I do all the time. We say we are sorry and then move on. I have great daughters and a great new son-in-law who is the best.

I am also their protector and the family Matriarch, however and this is important, I am not their friend. I am something much more than that.

You can't change who parented you, however you can change how you parent.

Chauffer, disciplinarian, teacher, guidance councelor, cook, maid, friend. I am now 36 with kids of my own and still turn to my mother for help along the way. A mother is the one person who will always love you, always stand by you and always be there when the chips are down. If I can be half the mom mine was then my kids will be pretty lucky

Mothers are always there giving you love all the time, even when you hate them. Taking care of your bruises and scrapes. Stays up all night when you are sick and bring you to the doctor when you have a fever.

Troubled soul. Did show me a good road map of what not to do. No resentment though, she did the best she knew how. And I am still standing, stronger than ever.
