while in law of the land, there is given equality of status, treatment and choice to a woman, in all matters, but there are special protections and laws to bring about social engineering in the long drawn past of the country which has witnessed the spuradic instances of inhumane treatment towards women...these include sati, dowery deaths, female infanticite and trafficing etc.

Every law give equal justice to both gender but sometimes it is misused by people. Law is made by people and breaks by only people. If every one oppose against evil then we require no law to protect us. Beacause we are guards of overself and morals.
