There is this guy that I really like and we've known each other forever but have never had a real convo with him. How do i start a convo with him? If i wrote him a letter, what should i say?

just tell him how u feel cuz I hve the same problem and I just told him I liked him, not I do have the rep of not being shy and just forward but i know that is u are forward with a guy and tell him u like him then u have a better chance of getting ur man

Letters like that are not a good idea. You can't be sure who else will see them and they can be used against you.
If you want send him a cute card that ISN'T mushy just to say hi and sign your name without love or any childish embellishments. If he wants to start something that's his opening. If he doesn't followup then he's not interested. Move on.

Don't write a letter.
Simply ask him to explain his favorite sport to you. For instance, say he likes baseball. Tell him you were watching baseball on TV and you have a question about how stealing a base works.
Guys love to talk about things they know about. Once he gets started, let him talk, then change subjects and ask him what else he's inot.

Some people get information like if he likes u has girl friend or too imature some just walk up to them and say some thin u do dat tell him how u fell see how he respondes

no, i say that don't write a letter to him, its gonna make u appear to him u have to say something...more like you are hiding something...so I say that just strike up a convo about some concert or something he went to and how it went...stuff like that...or the football game...idk...something and you'll have a real convo...

if you know each other forever, why don't you just gather enough courage to speak with him... starting a conversation is not as hard as it seems... usually it starts with trivial matter and when you get to know each other better then it will eventually lead to deeper conversation... just let the flow of convesation going...
