We did get the phone number for the space A flight for Fort Tinker in Oklahoma City. But when my daughter called for a flight, the man on the phone said that she couldn't fly without her husband, who is the one in the military. But in order for my daughter and her kids to see her husband for his basic training graduation, they need to go there without him. She does have a military ID. Is there anything else we can do, or have the rules changed because of 911?

I'm a Military wife and we are stationed in Italy, and my kids and I have flown Space A more then once without my husband with us.When he has flown with us, it just made us higher priority because he was there, and we had what was called EML leave. But many times I have taken flights from here to the States and from the States to hear without him with me. I have also flown to Sicily, Germany and Greece on Space A to meet up with my husband if he has been away for while, so again, he wasn't with us on the flight.
When we were stationed in the States, I flew a couple times from State to State on Space A, but they may have stopped doing that. It's been probably a little over two years since I flew Space A within the US. I flew from Virginia to Florida, and from Virginia to Texas, but again, they may have changed that. I know that the commercial airlines were having a fit about it because it was competing against them, and obviously if we can fly for free or for a small fee, we were going to do that! The Military may have stopped it because of the civilian airlines, or another reason.
If she was trying to get to a base in another country, or from another country to the States, she would have no problem and he wouldn't have to be with her, but they very well may have stopped the Space A flights for dependents within the US.
She is probably going to have to pay out of pocket if she wants to attend his graduation.

flights within CONUS must have the military member fly with any dependants Space A. Before, the only way dependants could fly on AMC was with orders, they couldn't fly Space A at all.

Dependants are authorized to fly Space A from a CONUS base to an OCONUS(and vice versa) base only to get back and forth to an overseas duty station where they are(stationed) at.

Unfortunately, your daughter needs to fly commerically if she wishes to attend her husband's graduation, or drive.

She should be able to fly without him. The only thing is she will need a command sponsership letter from his command acknowledging that it is ok for her to fly to come see him. Also, she will have a very low priority on the list. Only reserve are below her. Also, if too many people with higher priorities want to fly that flight, she is outta luck, and has to wait for the next one with an open seat. Her best bet if she really wants to not miss it is to fly commercial.

I think because it is in the US that you have to have the Military Member present. It used to be that dependents couldn't fly Space-A at all for flights in the US, but flights that terminate overseas or begin overseas and terminate in the US you could.
