The commentators on the Quran are in agreement on all these verses: the number 7 means no more than plurality. [ Apart from the Quran, we often find the number 7 meaning plurality in texts from Muhammad's time, or from the first centuries following him, which record his words (hadiths).]
There are therefore many Heavens and Earths, and it comes as no small surprise to the reader of the Quran to find that earths such as our own may be found in the Universe, a fact that has not yet been verified by man in our time.
Verse 12 of sura 65 does however predict the following:
"God is the One Who created seven heavens and of the earth (ard) a similar number. The Command descends among them so that you know that God has power over all things and comprehends all things in His knowledge."
Since 7 indicates an indefinite plurality (as we have seen), it is possible to conclude that the Quranic text clearly indicates the existence of more than one single Earth, our own Earth (ard); there are others like it in the Universe.
--sura 23, verse 86. God is speaking to the Prophet.
"Say: Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the tremendous throne?"
We have already seen how by 'seven heavens' what is meant is not 7, but an indefinite number of Heavens.

According to Qur'an & Saheeh hadith, there are 8 Heavens. I'm not sure how so many people above said there are 7.
The first & the best one is Jannat ul Firdaus (paradise). People with most good deeds & least bad deeds are supposed to enter there. Depending on their good & evil deeds, they will enter differet Heavens, so far I came to know. But, people who will enter the 8th level won't feel that their heaven is worse than others. It is stated in Hadith that the last Muslim, who will have burnt in Hellfire for long time, will be forgiven atlast and allowed to enter Heaven. Even though he will be the last among all Heaven dwellers, he will be an owner of a place in Heaven which would equal to 10 times the earth's area.

Heaven is the name for the firmament that exists between the
Earth and where the Source of Life we call God/Allah is.
Genesis 1.
Some call this the Astral Plane, which is actually three
dimensions. the Bible mentions the Third heaven. (2 Corinthians
12), I believe. As well as Astral projection. The spirits ability to leave the body before "death".
The teaching of Christianity states that there will be a time of
great trouble on our world. Many Christians do not accept this themselves. But those who face it bravely, without giving in to
hatred and murder. Will be taken to the highest heaven. There
to rule over lesser beings.

Some of you people have the rudest answers.
In Mysticism Judaism it is the same as Islam-I think. We all strive to reach different levels of contentment, peace, and happiness. We can spiritually aspire to this thru thought, movement (dancing into a trance like state), and whatever works for you. Each time you reach out farther toward Heaven, you rise to another step to Heaven-up to the 7th Heaven. It is a state of being in contentment and bliss with G-d.
Ever heard the expression, ''He is in his 7th heaven''?
Paradise, or if you call it Heaven, is our final goal.

7 heavens & Allah knows best about their differences
====-------=========-------=========--------=========----
Abu Dawud Book 40, Number 4705:
Narrated Al-Abbas ibn AbdulMuttalib:
I was sitting in al-Batha with a company among whom the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) was sitting, when a cloud passed above them.
The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) looked at it and said: What do you call this? They said: Sahab.
He said: And muzn? They said: And muzn. He said: And anan? They said: And anan. AbuDawud said: I am not quite confident about the word anan. He asked: Do you know the distance between Heaven and Earth? They replied: We do not know. He then said: The distance between them is seventy-one, seventy-two, or seventy-three years. The heaven which is above it is at a similar distance (going on till he counted seven heavens). Above the seventh heaven there is a sea, the distance between whose surface and bottom is like that between one heaven and the next. Above that there are eight mountain goats the distance between whose hoofs and haunches is like the distance between one heaven and the next. Then Allah, the Blessed and the Exalted, is above that.

Malik's Muwatta - Book 15, Number 15.8.30:
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Abu Abdullah al-Agharr and from Abu Salama from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Our Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, descends every night to the heaven of this world when the last third of the night is still to come and says, 'Who will call on Me so that I may answer him? Who will ask Me so that I may give him? Who will ask forgiveness of Me so that I may forgive him?' "
