My mom just gave us her old Hotpoint Dryer, and it squeaks the whole time it is running. I tried looking in the guts but cannot see anything that would be causing it. Is there a part that I can oil to at least make the noise less intense? Or is there some part that may need to be tightened a little? If so, where do I find it? It is driving me insane, I may wash and walk over to the mat to dry if it doesn't stop!
Thanks!

Your dryer squeaks because the ball bearings that make the drum rotate need greasing.

Most dryers drums turn via a belt that runs from a motor and then stretches around the drum. The squeaking is probably coming from the belt. Do not lubricate that belt. Go buy a new belt.

Mind did the same thing, right before the belt broke. Dont know what to tell you, did she give the original paperwork on it? Sometimes the booklets help, or get online at Hotpoint and look for a manual there.

Go to an auto parts store such as Pep Boys and get some belt anti-squeak lube and apply some to the tumbler belt.

You may need to have the levers on the bottom raised. unevenness cause the squeaks when the dryer is off balance...the belt may be worn as well.

yeah grab some WD-40 and spray what it is that you think is squeaking that should do the trick if the squeak doesnt stop it might need a belt tightened

It might start on fire. Take it to the repair man and let him fix it. I would hate to see your house in flames.
