Something neutral, but that still has a bit of color- I like a pale peach.

I ripped all the carpeting up and put in wood floors. My son's allergies are much better, it is easier to clean and looks fantastic. Also, using throw rugs allows you to change the colors every couple years. I now live in Sweden and have not seen a house with carpeting. When you ask the Swedes "why" they don't have it, they tell you, "That's so 70's!" (Plus they tell you how unhealthy it is!) So, if this question is not just a quiz, consider NOT putting carpeting in.

we just bought our home 11 months ago that has new dupont stainmaster carpet throughout, and this carpet was a selling point for me. i think it is beautiful! on the paperwork it says thoroughbred color #1001 chestnut
the carpet wears well and it really does repel stains
my son spilled red koolaid in the living room and with a wet cloth every bit of it came right up i was amazed
ive removed several stains that i hadnt a clue what they were
im very impressed with it
in my living room i have furniture that is hunter green and oak trim it goes great with the carpet
my bedroom furniture is very dark and it goes with it as well
and in my computer room i have floor to ceiling english oak cabinets and it also looks great

I love a 'berber', what ever color you choose. They wear very,
very well and have specks of different colors in them, which always helps and less cleaning than a solid color.
good luck

Something neutral..
if you have children or pets, neutral and also something that won't show dirt as much..
Then add some touches of color with area rugs, floor pillows, etc.

A neutral or earth tone. They're more versatile as far as the rest of the decor, and they show less dirt and pet hair.
