Most people aren't attacking the bible as a book, but are defending themselves againse how rabid Christians USE that book to justify their hatred and bigotry towards anyone that doesn't live their live exactly how they think they should.

First let me say that I am not a Christian, Atheist, or Agnostic. I don't see a problem with any religion or Spiritualist. I have read the bible and I am re-reading it and studying it. However, there are many things in the bible that are not true. The flood was not true. They have studied it and it wasn't the entire world that was flooded. It was an area of the earth but just a small area. They say it was the whole earth because it was as far as they could see. Secondly, They Egyptians didn't enslave the Jewish people to build pyramids. The Egyptians did it themselves. The Pharaoh that they said was in power at the time, wasn't. He wasn't in power any where near that time. There are so many contradictions in the bible that how can you believe and practice everything. You just can't. How can you believe and eye for an eye and turn the other cheek? You can't do both. Now I am not saying the entire bible is a bad book. There are some very good lessons in there and some very good things to follow. But the same goes for Winnie the Pooh books too. You don't believe in Winnie the Pooh books but you can take a good lesson from them. Now I don't think that this is going to change your mind about the bible. I think you have every right to believe as you do. But in the same sense, I also have a right to not believe in your bible and to pick my own religion.

For some people, it's easier to believe there is no God because to accept that there is, means many will be on a fast trip to hell. What the bible states in a nutshell is that if we (all humans) do not change our sinful ways and follow God's plan for us, we will indeed suffer the consequences. And, for what the book of Revelation foretells, who honestly wants to accept the fact that these things will happen?
This world has grown so accustomed to believing only what can be proven by our 5 senses, it's hard to imagine there will ever be a time when 144,000 people will actually ascend into heaven.
God moves ALL of the time! Every second should be acknowledged as a blessing from God. If people took a step back and realized just how many times they actually experienced the difference between life and death in a matter of a few seconds or minutes, I'm sure their tune would change!
I'll bring up a tragic event to prove this point and then I'll close. The fall of the World Trade Center Towers: if everyone would think back for a moment: on that day, there were so many accounts of people late for work, absences, major delays and so forth. I wonder if those who are alive today attribute their current existence to God or just some fluke? EVERYTHING happens for a reason, make no mistake about it - including death! If you are alive today, it IS for a reason.
For those reading, this is not meant to hurt you or disrespect the memories of your lost loved ones - rather to get you to realize that although they are gone, you are here. Be happy for YOUR life and stick around long enough to find out why God has kept YOU and what he has planned for you.

Scientists and historians are not trying to prove the Bible is a lie. They are only following the evidence. If events in the Bible lack evidence, or the evidence points to other possibilities, then it is not the fault of the scientists or historians.
I am also concerned with your phrase "unless God allows it." This is a tricky phrase to use because it implies that God made a decision in every event in our lives. It leads to concepts like "God allowed 9/11," or "God saved X, but allowed X to die." Personally, I believe that God gave the first generation of Man free will, and that all that has followed has been without the intervention of God. Bad things happen not because of any ineffable plan, but because they can.
As the son of a Vietnam vet myself, I humbly thank you for the service you rendered on behalf of freedom and our country. Without the service of you and your fellow soldiers, this forum could not exist.

The no atheists in foxholes thing - just another cliche argument. The bible will fade away along with all the "great" religions. It will take a long time, many generations and there will always be fringe groups clinging to it, but it will eventually fade away.

There is nothing that we can do about the Bible being attacked. The prophets let us know that the enemy is going to be on the attack. People are going to turn more and more heinous. It's really just more proof that the Bible is real. Go with your faith. Don't worry about proving that the Bible is real. Have you heard the expression that YOU are the only Bible some people will read? Do what the Bible says and wear your whole armor to combat the enemy. Who knows? You might just end up proving the Bible is the only infallible Word of God just by living an exemplary life. Do you!

People are bent on attempts to prove the bible is a lie to counter those that kill and/or have killed while trying to prove and/or instill a theory that the bible is in fact, the truth.
Last time I checked my history books, I don't recall any group of atheists killing hundreds of thousands in "Crusades".
I don't remember the last time an atheist shot and killed an abortion doctor, or bombed a planned parenthood clinic.
The difference between you and those that believe like you versus atheists..... Atheists don't use bullets and bombs to make their point.
Learn the history of your religion first, buddy.
For the record, I am NOT an atheist.
On a nicer note: Thank you for your service to our country.

Why are people determined to shove their beliefs in other people's faces? If you want to believe in a book of myths and fables (creation, Noah & the ark, Jonah & the whale, the talking donkey, the virgin birth, turning water into wine, walking on water, raising the dead, resurrection, rapture), then that is your business.
As for the rest of us, we want P-R-O-O-F. Got that? PROOF! Show me the money. Would you recommend that we invest in Enron if it resurrects itself?
You might have your beliefs, but so do the Jehovah's Witness and the Seventh Day Adventists -- and they firmly BELIEVE in their statements.

We don't need to attack the bible. It's pretty much the cause of alot of Atheism. And save your "There are no Atheists in foxholes" garbage. I've been so close to death quite a few times, and I have never needed a god or book or fairy tale as a crutch.

Almighty God gave us his word to guide us through life. There is nobody that can show it to be a lie because it simply IS'NT. There are no contradictions, no inconsistancies, no conflict of doctrine even though is was written through roughly 16 centuries by a host of diverse inspired penmen.
Satan has tried for many years to debunk the Holy Bible with little success except to corrupt Chritianity with pagan beliefs like hell-fire, immortal souls, three faced trinity God(s), churches with steeples and crosses, holidays like Christmas, Easter, etc. etc. all of which (and many more) are direct links to paganism of ancient Babylon, and NO basis in the scriptures.
