Wow, you're really mature for being only almost 30.....Don't ever sell out....there is no such thing as financial security.
I have worked as a nurse for 25 years and DO NOT have a retirement because I choose not to. When I get too old to work my job, I will rock my grand babies on the front porch and cook dinner every night for which ever one of my 4 kids wants to have me....
OR I could go live in an African orphanage and rock those babies. I will always have a roof somewhere. That's all I need.

Jesus said Man cannot serve both God and Money ... instead of selling out your ideals to gain financial security, USE your ideals to gain financial security ... most of the time when people say things like that, they don't really know what specifically their ideals are ... find that out first, then seek out companies or industries or career paths that are in sync with them ... a vegan would not work at a butcher shop, nor would an atheist be a youth pastor, or a oil driller be on the board of GreenPeace ... you can have both

Well I guess I look at it this way... I'd rather struggle than compromise myself and my ideals.. I know I'm always talented enough to get by and if that is what it is so be it. Life is too short not to live it the way that best suits who you are. Always be true to yourself. Money can always make sure you have security but it cannot always make sure you have peace or happiness.

It's a horrible question to ask yourself, isn't it? :-)
It isn't so much sellin out your ideals as it is deciding WHICH ideal are taking priority in your life at a given point.
For example:
If you have a family, it is probably more important to you to teach good work ethics and provide for them than it is to 'stick it to the man' so to speak.
You aren't giving up your ideals or selling them out. You are simply recognizing that you will have different priorities at different stages of life.

At the point when you decide that financial security is less of a "prison" than the "prison" of ideals. That's up to you.
Remember, a person who has nothing left to lose, truly, has nothing left to lose.

Assuming you want to join in with those of us who are now enjoying the classical "American Dream", about 5 years ago would have been good. However, a late start is better than no start at all.

Who says you have to? You are thirty years old by now you should have some idea how life works. Are you happy? Then continue on your merry little journey.

There is no such thing as guaranteed financial 'security.'
Consider this: The measure of a man's real character is what he would do if he knew he never would be found out. ~Thomas Babington Macaulay
