1 road leads to a golden palace where all your dreams come true. 1 road leads to a forest where a slow and painful death awaits. These roads meet at a fork. There are two Indians at the fork. One always lies and one is always 100% truthful. You may only ask 1 Indian 1 question to determine which road to take to the wonderful place. You don't know which is which (remember, you can only ask 1 question of 1 Indian - and no run-on questions - it's 1 straightforward question). I'll post the answer later if no one has gotten it and 10 points to first correct answer who explains why! You must explain why to get credit!

OK, I'll post the answer and I'll give the 10 points to the person who is kicking themselves in the butt for not remembering - because the one person who got it right failed to explain their answer (which I asked specifically for y'all to do!)

You would ask 1 Indian which road the other Indian would say was the road to the castle. If you asked the lying Indian, he would point you to the bad road, because he always lies - and he'd be telling you the opposite of what the good Indian would tell you. If you happened to be asking the truthful 1, he'd point to the bad road ALSO because he'd truthfully tell you that the Indian would direct you falsely. So you would go the opposite way of whatever direction the Indian showed you.

And to the people who talked about asking an obvious question to find out which one was the liar - apparently you missed the part - or several parts - where it was made clear you could only ask one question.

You ask both indians "If I asked the other Indian to lead me down the right road, which one would he point to?"

The lying indian would point down the wrong road, and so would the truthful indian.

Go the other way!

Ask which direction someone from the different tribe might want to inform you to take and take the different one. If the man is secure he will genuinely inform you that the cannibal might want to inform you to take the risky direction. If he's the cannibal he might want to lie and inform you that the secure man or woman might want to direct you down the risky direction.
