I think the flag part is probably unconstitutional, and think the revoking business license approach is effective whereas this is symbolic, but it is a new approach.

What do you think?

"Kimmel laid out a five-ordinance plan in an Aug. 10 column in the Arcadia News-Leader, that would, among other things: make English the official language in Arcadia, a city of whose 2000 population of 2,402 has been swelled in recent years by predominantly Mexican immigrants drawn largely by jobs at nearby dairies; require an American flag to fly alongside any other national flag; alert federal agents to complaints of undocumented workers; and ensure signs are in English only.

Kimmel said non-English speaking residents put a drain on government resources and that illegal immigration has increased crime and hurt neighborhoods."

The whole points is they are not melting into the community, they don't speak English and probably don't even try, and if they don't speak English how did they find out about it any way, they are illegal and demanding rights they have no rights to, they don't care what they make official in that city, they will do what they want and become more defiant, and that is because no one has showed them the door in the first place. They shouldn't be their anyway. I don't even want to see a Mexican flag in the heart land. look at the Cubans they are just as bad, some have been here 30 years and still don't speak one word of English.

It's probably unenforcable. Cities can pretty much pass whatever ordinances they want, but enforcing them is a different matter. For example, it is AGAINST THE LAW in Boston to put tomatoes in clam chowder. I'm reasonably sure this law has never been enforced, however.
