I live in South Carolina which seems like it is a primarily southern baptist state, I encounter many bible pushers that try to sway me of my thoughts. Now that i have started using Yahoo answers I have realized that many of you are bible pushers. When people ask for information about something (such as the wiccan religion) why do you find it necessary to preach to them? they are just broadening their horizons. I am not a disbeliever but i am 18, and I was not brought up religious. I do believe that in time i will find a religion I can trust in but I would rather know about my religion and not be a hypocrite as many others are, so please dont preach to me. If often makes people not want to be religious honestly. Why do people insist on pushing their religion on others?

+A question for you. What makes or impels you to bombard us with your drivel?
- I'm asking a question, I have no drive Doll, I'm not the antichrist, but pushing religion on people is wrong. It also tends to make people not want to believe in a God. Im not Atheist. There is no "drive" you need to read it again.
+Simply type wicca into your search engine and you will get hundreds of sites. If you don't preached at, don't ask on here.
- I was talking about viewing a post where someone had questioned what wicca is... i personally know what it is. Gaining knowledge should not have to involve a preaching session.

AND by the way, Im very open to all religions and I do not tell people their beliefs are wrong. People do however think that I am wrong for wanting to know all of my religious options, rather than saying im christian and being a hypocrite. I dont understand how its much better to say I'm a Christian and Defy the lords teachings (yes I do know a thing or two) or wait until I actually feel like something is right. Pushing will not help people see the way of God, it will run them off. Think before you speak.

Nope, I'm not a Bible pusher and I can relate to your feelings. Have you read about the 6-member Christian family in Berlin that are about to be evicted for praying and screaming too loud for their neighbors?

Every religion or cult has its sincere followers, humble people who give anonymously and don't impose their beliefs on anyone. Unfortunately, every religion or cult has their hypocrites (the Pharisees of Jesus' time) and fanatics who think they'll go to hell if they don't push their religion on others.

Let's just be patient and ignore the last two groups.

I am a firm believer in man's (and woman's) natural ability and inclination to seek for happiness and meaning in life in their own way. We are all truthseekers...we're not just ready or willing to get a religious label slapped on us.

There is nothing wrong with studying other religions, even if you are a Christian. The reason people "push" the bible is because they want you to join them in the kingdom of Heaven. Don't get me wrong, some people use the Bible as an excuse for their behavior, but these people are misguided. Jesus is all about love, peace, and acceptance. Those who believe in Him will have everlasting life. Very few people who do not believe in Jesus will go to Heaven. Without Jesus, one would have to hold tight to the Old Testament rules. In other words, you must be absolutely perfect and without sin. This is unrealistic. Jesus, since he was once a man, understands that this is impossible. Therefore, if you believe in Him, He will testify to God on your behalf and you will go to Heaven. He paid for all of our sins-past, present, and future-with his own life. So those who accept his sacrifice will be forgiven.
True Christians are tolerant, unlike other religions. Islam preaches peace and tolerance, but everyone knows that Muslims are the most intolerant people on Earth. But, that's okay. They won't be with the rest of us in the Afterlife. The Muslims believe that one day a Messiah will come and bring peace between Israel and the Muslim world. They will worship him as God. We Christians call this person the Anti-Christ. And those who follow him and take his mark will perish in fire.

Not very long ago, I was in the very same place you are now.

I try not to push my beliefs on others and I try to understand others (that's why I asked about wicca). When I am asked about my religion I answer honestly and from my heart. Sometimes I might get a little carried away but I think it's because I finally "get it". "It" being the joy and peace that comes from knowing with all your heart that you are doing what you were meant to do.

Christianity is essentially a criminal business enterprise... in fact, it is the world's longest running and most successful Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) scam. The product they are selling is the illusion of 'salvation'... and the 'pay plan' doesn't kick in until after you're dead. Meanwhile the victims (having been deceived into believing that it is their God-given duty) are out there busily recruiting MORE victims. What a racket! FORTUNATELY, it only works on those who are gullible enough, and sufficiently lacking in critical thinking skills, to fall for it. UNfortunately, THAT accounts for about 75% of the population of the USA. (There are a lot more people who DON'T know how to think properly than there are people who DO know how to think properly.) That is why there are a lot more religious people in the USA than there are 'Free-thinkers'... including Atheists. Also, Christians are generally too dense to realize that proselytizing (spreading the 'good news') is a key element of the Christian MLM MARKETING PLAN, which was instituted after Christianity lost the political power that had previously allowed them to simply torture and kill anybody who did not comply. Now, they obliviously try to just pester and annoy people to death, through persistent obnoxiousness. If you stop to think about it, you will realize that Christians are very much like the Borg, on Star Trek Next Generation: "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." I would not be surprised to learn that thoughts of Christianity provided the 'creative spark' for the Borg concept.

Interestingly, statistics on supernatural beliefs count the USA on a par with backward, developing Third World nations, rather than among modern, advanced industrial powers.

You are right. There are a lot of obnoxious bible bangers on this site. If they would only realize that they are just p.issing people off instead of converting them, maybe they'll chill out. But I doubt it.

The Christians also seem to think that the category "Religion And Spirituality" belongs EXCLUSIVELY to them.

I completely agree with you. Thanks for your question.
Those people just make me angry, and are making me hostile towards all Christians! If I didn't ask you about the Bible, don't tell me a Bible.
PS- They don't just try to monopolize this category. Check out the books category. They keep suggesting the Bible to anyone who asks for a good book to read, regardless of what they list as their "taste".
Get a life, Bible bangers!

They think if they are louder than everyone else, the information you are looking for will be lost in the confusion. It's a common Christian tactic. The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Some of us have taken the time and done the research to know that we know the truth. And what you consider Bible pushing is only our way of warning you of an impending disaster that could cost you your life. I doubt you would consider it imposing if I were to knock on your door to alert you to a fire in the rear of your house that you may not have seen.

Part of the Christian belief is to share the Word of the Lord with others - to help everyone enter the kingdom of heaven. It's a part of our life as a Christian. Jesus said to share the Word of the Lord with others, so we are following His teachings. No one is trying to harm you, but help you according to what they believe.

I talk to any who will listen about the Bible. Why? Well see this command that Jesus gave his followers:

(Matthew 28:18-20) . . .And Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying: “All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. . . .

So we are to actively go and teach people from every nation.... if they will listen?

Mike
