I live in the Bronx and have a week of vacation to spend with them. What can I do besides the Bronx Zoo?

Go to the beach, either Rockaway Beach or the Jersey shore! Or take them to Coney Island.... Or take them to a big park up along the Hudson upriver and let them run around all day.

Go to Sesame Place in Pennsylvania... it's only a 2 hour drive MAX, more like one and a half hours. It's awesome for young children, you get to see the sesame street characters and it's a fun and safe water park with age appropriate rides.
Niagara Falls is pretty cool and good for kids I think too. Also the Jersey Shore, like Pt. Pleasant or Atlantic City are fun and have many boardwalk activities as well as the beach. Have fun!

Rockaway Beach is really nice and near the Bronx and better than Orchid beach. I would take them to the city, FAO Schwartz and then maybe that alien themed resturant on 60th.

verify ny city hotels. you'd be a 5 minutes subway experience from midtown and be interior funds. lately a handful of latest hotels were equipped. some actually have a Limo go back and forth to and from the city.

Take a drive up to Vermont. In any event get out of the city. New England is at your backdoor and it is beautiful.

Take them to Brooklyn aquarium
Take them to Catskills (if you have a car)
Take them to the nearest apple orchard (if you have a car)
