my girlfriend and me are of the same height.We're both5'11.Would she prefer a taller guy?

I don't think that it is "necessary", but I think that it looks much better on the couple. The man is generally seen as the superior one and to look up and introduce your huge girlfriend seems awkward to me. The woman should "look up to" a man, whether it's through problems or.... even when we are talking about something as simple as height. Either way, though, I wouldn't let it stop you from being with someone you really care about. It just might be seen as a little unusual to people, but you don't really have to impress them, anyway.

Its strictly a matter of personal taste... most women like men that are taller, but if she's 5'11" she's probably used to being let down in that department ;-)
I'm in the same situation, sort of. I'm 6'2", girlfriend is 6'0"... our children are going to the NBA.

you sould be taller than her only if you will stand behind her a lot and want to see whats going on. otherwise,being the same height sounds good.
seriously height cant be the biggest issue in the world

no, but I prefer a shorte girlfriend, and I am only speculating, but I believe most women like a taller guy....even with womens lib and what not, alot of women still like their guy to be a little taller than her.
but if you a 4'1, I apolgize, but you can still be the bigger man and treat her with the love and respect that she deserves

I know a couple who have been married 20+ years. She's at least a full head taller & several obvious years younger than he is.

well, I am 5' 11" myself, and a guy that is the same height as me si not that bad. I am the same height as the guy that I am with now, but I have like a guy that was only 5'9... I am sure that your height is not what she is worried about, or she would not have ever gone out with you
