How does this axiom apply today on a spiritual scale?
(I am really just wondering what everyone thinks on this one, I don't have an answer of my own)

I can't say I can apply that to anything in my life. As a Christian and a motorcycle minister I try to "follow" God's word as close as humanly possible. I would never do the get out of the way thing. It is "let me show you the way. As far as lead, I'm considered a leader of sorts in my chapter because of holding the office of Chaplain.

I don't know what kind of an answer this would be, but good day and God bless....The Rev.

I think this axiom might be able to be demonstrated by Balaam....

He was a non-Israelite who chose to follow the God of Israel and was actually given a prophetic gift from God.

But, it seems that he may have had an inner desire to be important (a leader), as demonstrated when he gave into King Balak's request to come curse the Israelites.

As he was on his way, already knowing that he wasn't really supposed to go (by a dream), he beat the crap out of his donkey for not moving forward, not knowing that it was an angel preventing his journey.

The truly spiritual would've observed the dream (following God) and stayed home...

Hello, I think I'm crazy because it's so clear to me: The three things are the same thing. I just don't know how to explain...

You get out of the way to remove the barriers that prevent you from realizing that God/Truth/Love are right here, in you and all over the place...
How else can you follow but by getting those barriers, your own fearful efforts out of the way, by letting God/Truth/Love take over?
And how else can you lead your life but by following what is true to you?

Well when it comes to my beliefs I neither want to follow nor lead. Get out of the way doesn't apply... I just want to quietly walk my own way.

There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you. I been sayin' that **** for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ***. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a ************ before you popped a cap in his ***. But I saw some **** this mornin' made me think twice. Now I'm thinkin': it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous *** in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that **** ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd.

Well..............
Most of us do both on some scale but the true creators are those who do the leading. They know what they want and have the knoweledge and ability to do that. We choose not to see them but they are all around.
Since most of us aren't self-sufficient, we remain as followers.

Do some web research about the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition. That should make it all crystal clear.

On a personal basis, I feel it just relates to follow. God leads.
In the context of the Church body, it hits home more.
Be out front, be in agreement, or move on.
There's a flavor for everyone.

"Don't join the perferct church. You will spoil it"

It sounds like the Christian church (or maybe some of the Abrahamic religions).

Either lead (i.e. get converts, lead churches, organizations, youth camps, etc.)

follow (i.e. have blind faith, go to church as often as possible and do not question!)

or get out of the way (Love or leave this "Christian" nation, lol, go to hell, etc.)

Not a very good answer, but I tried...

When it comes to religion, I don't think that anyone should lead OR follow.
