I don't pray for anything nor do I expect any miracles. Gave up on that years ago. Don't generalize because I know many people who believe in God do the same thing that you are mentioning.

I am agnostic and although I have endured many life altering events in my life and my world,I have never resorted to a God I do not believe in ,or prayed to that deity for help or absolution.I also do not disrespect any ones religious beliefs or talk "bad" about any God.
And as for the people that do that, call out to god in times of need, why should you feel any thing. As long as you believe in your god when does it matter when you call on him.for some people that's when their faith really becomes a reality.stop being judgmental .Accept their prayers as a gift to your chosen God nothing more.Your bible says 'judge not lest ye be judged, and found lacking"
Have a wonderful day.....

I don't believe in god and I've had my life endangered quite a few times (rape, shotguns pointed at my head, choked to near death, car accident) And I now have a condition that renders me infertile just at the time we're trying to have a baby. But I never once thought of a god or tried to turn to one. Any nonbeliever won't. We have absolutely no belief in a god, therefor, don't need one as a crutch.

I resent the Christians that think they know and own exclusive rights to God.
God is for every one who believes there is a power greater than themselves.
Lets call it the "Great Creator" " Gia" was Mother to Earth, early on God was female, only the Christians made God a man.

That strengthens my point. I do not believe there is such a thing as a true atheist. If you want, and I had the space here, I could give you some horrible examples I saw in my teens in the Korean War. There were some self-proclaimed atheists there, but within a couple of days, their outlook changed dramatically.

Its because it has become part of speech now. I say oh my god if i fall or something like that, or sometimes i say thank god, even though i dont believe in god. It is a part of speech now, nothing more.

They are afraid they made the wrong choice. If that moment they wonder, "could it all be true?"

The flip side: I have known quite a few Christians who loose their faith when bad things happen. Why? Anger and "could it all be false?"

Weakness and doubt cause some to act in these situations. This nothing inherent of being an atheist or Christian.

its because they realized that their life isnt in their control, so they think that there must be something in control of their life. they are hoping that there is a god who can save their life.

there is no better survival rate for people who pray to god then there is for those who dont. people who pray to god just can't accept that there is no one in control of their life but themselves.

they are just scared.

It's an easy scapegoat. It's being imbalanced between appreciating what you already have and what you take for granted. It's denying those "fears of the unknown" and not being able to face those fears head on to learn from them.

I think God will be the Judge of these people. Not me.
