there is no why , i t just happens .
sometimes it is because there is a chromosome problem ,
sometimes it is cased by trauma at birth
it happens some times when a drug attacks the foetus
though it is very sad , many people with severe defects, go on to live great lives and make the very best of their physical problems .
It is up to us all, with our abilities,
to help ,encourage and support them and thier families,
to overcome the difficulties they may have .
respect these people, for their courage , cheerfulness and tenacity .
:)

There are many reasons people can be born with problems. One is that the mother was involved with drugs or alcohol or smoking. These can cause a variety of problems from physical defects to mental problems later in life.
Another is that the mother was exposed to some type of toxin by accident, through drinking water, food or other places in the environment.
Another is just chance! There are so many things that have to go perfectly in the development of a baby that sometimes something goes wrong. Sometimes the DNA does not arrange itself correctly and there is nothing that can be done about that. Genes get mixed up and don't get fixed, this will lead to some kind of defect. It's a miracle that there aren't more problems!
Hope this helps!

Lots of reasons possible. The most common is just a little mistake in the passing of the DNA from the parents to the baby. While it can never be ruled out, things like medicins, alcohol and having babies at a later age all might contribute to it.

people born with defects are considered as having a genetic disease, as you know that the development of a human is build upon our DNA, the protein determines the speices, there are estimated 30,000 different protein which make up all our different internal and external organs thus all our different cells. DNA codes for protein, and protein is made up of amino acids, i.e. it's a chain of amino acids, the DNA codes for the 20 amino acids which occurs naturally, for example AUG which is the start codon coding for methionine in both prokaryote and eukaryote, DNA is made up of phosphate and sugar backbone and four different base in a double helix structure, Adenine, Guanine, cytosine and thymine (or uracil in mRNA), DNA is transcribed into mRNA before synthesis of protein... there are many more fundamental ideas you need to understand before understand genetic defects, but this can take forever also depends on your intelligence, so i have to be brief. for example down syndrome, the reason for that is there is an extra chromosome numbered chromosome 21, this extra chromosome will have effects on protein synthesis during the developement of the individual and as a reuslt this individual tends to have lower mental ability, as you know that human have 22 pair of autosome and one pair of sex chromosome which is xy for men and xx for women, down syndrome has 3 chromosome for the 21st pair of autosome, this error ouccrs because the mitotic spindle apparatus was not working propertly during meiosis (another fundamental process you need to understand) anyway, your question covers a broad range of knowledge, so i suggetst you to learn something about human genetics first.

It can be from a recessive gene combination or expression, random mutation (in chromosomes of either contributor), mechanical glitch during division or development, something external like sudden drop in blood oxygen, drugs, thermal shock, physical injury, poor nutrition, toxins, radiation, mother's illness. A lot depends also on what disorder we are talking about. Some are strictly genetic.

God chooses how we are to be before we are even conceived. As the mother of a son with Autism I sometimes feel that God chose me to be my son's mother to teach me patience and strength. Genetics do have a lot to do with how we develop in utero . If I knew the answer to what causes Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Down SYndrome and the perfect way to treat these conditions then I'd make a lot of parents and siblings very happy.

Do some research any number of reasons, genetic disorder, cell mutation or even something like a woman drinking during pregnancy can harm a foetus there is no one answeer

When ever a cell splits there is a chance for a mutation. There are a lot of outside factors that could help the mutation happen but mutations are the very essence of evolution.

A lot of defects are genetic. Many things can go wrong during cell division and reproduction.

Blame genetics! Mutations in genetic codes can either occur naturally or induced by the environment, thereby causing these birth defects.
