If you were from south of the border - say, Mexico or Central America - you could just walk across with no hassle and stay here as an illegal until hell froze over. Sounds like a double-standard to me - we keep out the good people and let the dregs of society in. Go figure. If you are allowed in, watch out for the Americans relocating to Canada!!

Its difficult for anybody to easily relocate to the US legally. Easier than immigrating to other countries no doubt. The problem is there are too many illegals slowing down the process for legal immigrants to get what they have been waiting so patiently for from the start.
Doing it the right way is always harder than those that go the easy route and cheat.

No there needs to be hassle to make sure you are all of the above, and to make sure the total number of poor immigrants, whose taxes are less than they take out in services, stays below a cap.
We need to stop the illegal immigration. Thereafter, we should loosen immigration in the specific categories where we want it. Getting so many illegally really hampers our ability to accept those we might otherwise want.

Because you the wrong color, fly to Mexico, get a dark tan and run across the border, pick a few veggies and cry racism and demand you be made a citizen immediately, your home free. That's how the illegal Mexicans do it. The government has no problem with that process. The government has trouble with the legal process.

Because according to Free Trade a desk has more rights than a person.
Free Trade = goods can move unhampered across the borders, but persons need visa and a job and ID and are time-limited.
Capitalism rules, eh?

Heck, and I wanted to move up there after the last election--go figure. Are you sure you'd want to move down here? Go watch Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." At a higher parallel you may be in a better place, really. (It's going to get warmer down here.) Plus, we have a problem with too many guns. Canada has much to admire.

Perhaps it is the same reason that United States residents are not coming to visit us in Canada.
You should have to go through the same process that anyone else goes through to get to live in the United States. And the US is justifiably wary of whom they are going to let in (legally).
