Hey Vanilla,
You could take a ferry from Battery park to Sayreville NJ, but personally speaking, apart from the ferry ride its not a good way to go to Jersey. You are better off going to 34st Penn Station and take a NJ Transit train to Elizabeth, get down there and catch a bus to Jersey Garden Mall, thats the outlet mall. It would take you like 20-25 mins to Elizabeth from 34 st.

I'm from Jersey--near Manhatten--and there's a Ferry that goes from Manhattan to Jersey City, but I cant remember the name. I'm sure you can catch the subway to the Ferry place.
If you're in NY, ASK SOMEONE. New Yorkers LOVE to give people directions..Ask your Hotel Front Desk which Ferry goes to NJ, and they'll tell you..As for Outlets, there's one in Secaucus but you might have to drive there. But the best mall in Jersey is the Jersey Gardens Outlet Mall--yah baby! Its the biggest mall in the State, and people come from other states to go there.

PS--I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE GUY ABOVE ME..TAKE THE 34th/Penn Station to NJ Transit Train to Elizabeth & Catch a Bus (but remember that Jersey Buses are kinda ghetto-hide your wallet!)--and catch the Bus to Jersey Gardens.
