Do you consider Religion to be something you want to do, or something you HAVE to do?
Do you think you could give it up?

Do you think you could live without it?

This question was presented for Chrisitians, Atheists are free to express how they feel about it, but i realise you're probably just going to present a long boring sentence that basicly just means ''no''......

Nondescript.

Thank you.

I like to get an understanding of atheists aswell, and it's nice to hear from a level headed one.

It's hard to come to understand their reasons for non believing as most, though they say they don't believe, seem to have a vivid hatred for The Lord.

Keep up your interests in The Lord.Perhaps one day you'll come to believe.

Umm......This is the internet.....I'm typing....You're reading it.

I do not have any type of ''tone''.
You read it from the view that you want to read it from.
I can't control how you take it in.

It is my Vocation. My lifes calling.I could never give it up. Christ is my life and my life is hidden within Him. I would not wish to live without Him.

I am upset that you are so intolerant of atheists. I do not consider myself to have any religion in particular but I am very interested in hearing and learning about all religions. Just because I could be considered an atheist, why would I present a long boring sentence saying no? Surely one cannot answer 'no' to a multi-choice question anyway... that aside I will answer your question.

I believe that religion should be about personal growth and what makes the individual happy as respectful of others. I think that religions should be kept outside of institutions. For example, I do not believe in religious schools as it is not a good way for children to learn to respect and tolerate all people.

Religion, as a subject of interest, is a hobby for me. I'm an athiest, but the topic interests me. It is amazing how people base their beliefs. I could definitely live without religion, though. I think the world would be a better place without it. I wish the world would get over all of their superstitions.

Right now, though, it feels like it is something I have to do. I feel the need to teach people what religion really is so that they can get over it personally. There are too many evils in the world being caused by religion.

Well, I am an atheist, but I was brought up in a strict fundamentalist sect, and for me, in childhood, religion was a chore. I had to attend services 6 times a week, I had to engage in bible study and ministry. I had to avoid contact with all of my peer group deemed to be unsuitable. Basically, my parents didn't enjoy their faith, they suffered from it. But it intruded into so many aspects of their lives, it was virtually their job.
Because it was an end-times sect, I think they got a real sense of elitism out of it - they were of the chosen few, christ was going to come pretty soon and kill everyone else in the world, and they would inherit the earth. I would never have thought they could have given it up, but they did. (Long story)
By the way, I'd like the chance to have a little micro-rant, whilst I'm at it. When I describe myself as atheist, I am often dismissed as a 'lapsed' Xtian, someone who just can't be bothered to go to church, someone too immoral to keep to church principles, or someone who just doesn't care.
In fact, I arrived at my atheism through a long and painful personal journey, by applying critical thinking to things I was being told to believe on faith. I am passionate about my atheism, and when I consider the harm theism does, I feel compelled to rage against it.
okay, rant over, thanks!

Religion is a question of faith. Believing in something you can't understand or explain.

It is only a 'job' for certain people. My father received peanuts as an Anglican priest, because it was a vocation. It wasn't my mother's vocation and certainly not mine, but we had to make do and mend.

If you think of your religion as a hobby then you certainly aren't religious. Try knitting or deep sea diving. You'll get more out of it.

religion isnt something that you need to do or have to do, it should just fit into your ordinary life just as waking up and eating breakfast does. although i do not follow any rganised religion, i would not say i am an unreligious person. religion is merely a set of beliefs..we do not have to believe, we do not want to believe....we just believe!

Well, I'm not going to to be giving up my religion any time soon, and if I don't think I really could do it, maybe just ignore it, but not renounce it completely. Nobody is forcing me to do it; it's just my choice.

Replace "religion" with "Jesus" and I can answer. He is life. Not an appendage to life. Nothing means anything without Him.

You have a very condesending tone when talking to people who don't agree with you. Typical.
