Hi Sara...I also have a brown spotted Bengal who is quite the character. I train domestic house cats as well as exotics and from personal experiences Bengals are quite inquisitive and quick to learn new behaviours compared to a domestic house cat. However, any cat can learn it's just that Bengals tend take to training easier. They can be affectionate, but on their own terms. Most do not prefer to be held nor are a lap cat. They are very high energy cats so they like a bit of attention and get into a bit of mischief if not trained well early on. They always interested in what you are doing around the home. Quite a few love to paw at water, some will even take a shower with their owners. They tend to do prefer a feline companion if one is gone daily for long hours. The dissenting aspect really depends on what you are looking for in a cat--if you want a cuddler or a lap cat Bengals do not fit into this group that's probably the biggest negative about them as a whole.
Please take a look at the The Int'l Bengal Cat Societies webpage below as well as Defiant's webpage to learn more about their behaviours as well. Yahoo has a Bengal group, but mostly the Bengal breeders use this listserv.

Check out the bengal cat group on Yahoo! Groups...lots of owners are on there. I've got a bengal and she's definitely interesting...but she's the only cat I've had so I don't know the personality differences. About all I can tell you is I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Bengals tend to be larger than most cats, and more muscular. Mine has been trained to sit, likes to drink from the faucet, walks on a leash and she has a mind of her own. Some figure out how to open doors and turn on faucets. Some have been known to flood the house trying to play in the water. My favorite thing about bengals is their coloring...they are gorgeous cats! I did meet one male Bengal...he was very strong and muscular, very big, and not very friendly. Check out this site...for the bengal cat association...

My father and mom have 2 cats, one in each and every of it truly is a bengal (seventh era). He meows lots, and calls for a large number of interest. He also has a really tender abdomen which comes with the breed. He sheds reasonably so grooming isn't too undesirable as long as you shop up with brushing weekly. he's very TERRITORIAL. even if he became fastened even as he turned right into a kitten, he will nevertheless mark his territory if a stray cat comes everywhere close to the abode that he's conscious of. My father and mom have a screened in patio and pool section that they enable the cats to flow out on. If a stray cat comes everywhere close to the abode, he will initiate spraying for no less than an afternoon. also, even as the different cat were given ill, the bengal began attacking him. both cats have lived mutually particularly a lot all their lives and yet once the different cat confirmed warning signs of weak spot, the bengal became waiting to kill him. We had by no ability seen the bengal exhibit such harsh habit earlier and had to seperate them even as the different cat were given over his ailment. After the different cat became all more beneficial effectual both resumed their close friendship of napping mutually and following one yet another round without warning signs of hostility. Bengals are attractive cats and can make great pets. once you've the different pets interior the abode in spite of the reality that and they develop into unwell, only be particular to shop a watch on the bengal. solid success!
