some relatively inexpensive things you can do to increase your horse power are:
1. Install a K&N air filter...they're about 40 bucks...they claim to give up to 20 more horse power...probably not that much but a noticable difference.
2. Get some split-fire spark plugs--some would debate that they're hard on an engine...but almost any performance upgrades are...they will give you more horsepower. They are about 5 bucks a piece.
3. But a performance chip for your engines computer...this will reprogram the computer to supply more power.
These are 3 inexpensive things you can do yourself....there are more upgrades that you can have done that would cost you some serious $$..but..you're never gonna get 6 or 8 cylinder performance out of a 4 cylinder unless you start digging into the fuel system, pistons, valves, etc...I would stick with the basics...or just trade it in for another jeep with a 6 cyl.

There is not much you can do to the 4 cylinder. Even the 6 is gutless although it does have more torque and ponies than the 4. Save your money for a swap up. Remember that your transmission, transfer case, brakes, and axles will need upgrading when you build up the power.

Same as me no money but big dreams. This last weeks AUTOWEEK showed a jeep wrangler with a late model Hemi check it out! The whole kit bolts in and is just what you asked for. Way to fast and powerful. So take out life insurance. Or ask Dr.Dieter Zutch Chrysler CEO to give you a New Jeep Comander STV. won't hurt to ask

you should want it to go slower so you can go off road better what is the problem? Do you not wanna rock crawl? Get some mud on the jeep that thing is for off road not racing.

69000 miles, have you had a tune–up? You would be surprised at what a difference some good-old-fashion maintenance will do.

sorry, but jeep wranglers don't have a lot of power and pick-up; your best bet is to drive it down hill as much as possible; (and i am not trying to be a smartass.)
