Yes. DJs are now being replaced by technology. People can now control their playlists very specificially. Sorry, Charlie!

A lot of people just can't afford a DJ or don't have time to get one. My friend had a VERY rushed wedding--her husband was headed to Iraq and they had to make it snappy. They brought a laptop but it was not as good as a pro would have been. Laptops will never replace the smoothness, variety, and crowd-pleasing that a real DJ could offer. Besides, the professional equipment would probably be hard for most couples to match. A lot of people are intent on blowing thousands of dollars for the big day, so I wouldn't stress out over this.

No, not really.
I think DJs can still contribute by:
a. Contriving a 'sound system failure' at the 15-minute mark of the best man's speech (much earlier, if he starts off with the excruciating: 'married life has many ups and downs...may yours be between the sheets')
b. Headbutting the lead guitarist of the amateur band hired for the occasion, to prevent him from playing exactly the same solo in different tempos over 'Brown-Eyed Girl' and 'Everything I Do'.
c. Hurriedly packing all the microphones away if 'More Than Words' appears on the karaoke playlist.
iPods are more convenient and cheaper, sure, but can any machine ever be as versatile or useful as a DJ?

I think it will.. It's alot simpler and cheaper, and most people are not ready to spend on a complete setup and paid DJ when they could get an "iPod Wedding" for much less.
Of course, some people that appreciate DJing for what it really is and can afford it will still sign professionals to do the job, there's no doubt about it. But alot of other people will simply go for the cheaper, simpler alternative, because we have a tendency to nowadays.
PS: perplexed has been reported. If you don't contribute to the question, stfu.

Well I am going to use my ipod for my engagement party. But I will still have a real live DJ for my wedding. Its just safer and no one has to worry about wrong songs coming on or skipping those you don't find appropriate.

I have heard of it, but a DJ does a lot more than just play music. You need someone to get the guest excited and out on the dance floor.
I dont think DJs need to worry.

We allready used our own computer hooked to a wonderful system for our wedding this june. We got to pick out all of our own music meticulously and we have a better collection then any DJ in town... I guess you're still in business if you can get customers who actually like to listen to a DJ... but my family and friends were happy to not have one. You may have a run for your money.

Hmm.. I'm not sure. iPods are used in parties right now. Guess it isn't impossible for iPods to be used in weddings as well. Tough luck for you. Technology just keeps on getting advanced. Maybe sometime we humans will be replaced by remote controlled robots! LOL.
