SPL 2 a good thing?

Is the SPL 2 a good idea? Where for example will teams in the second and third divisions ever get the money to build a 3,000 all-seater stadium(requirement for promotion to SPL 2). Surely this is self-interest gone mad.

I find the idea of an SPL 2 a joke. Im a Hearts fan and i can not even begin to imagine what difference changing the name of a poor league will achive. teams from the 3rd and 2nd division can be invited into this set up due to them having a suitable stadium, but how can that make it a better league when some of these teams barely attract 1000 to a home game.

As someone above stated we need to look at amalgamating smaller teams, we have 4 teams in the Angus area, which has a population of 100K at most plus the 2 dundee teams a few miles down the road, i think the avergae gate total between these 6teams is about 20K.

Then in the Central region we have 4 teams whos total gate is less than 10K between them.

This is not sustainable for a league that needs a shake up

Only one reason for it, and its money.

Would still be the same division with tighter, unaffordable regulations for smaller clubs. Just the same as the SPL was when it was created with silly rules creating problems with stadia criteria and promotion was denied etc. Unlike the English Championship, there isnt enough interest in it, and any tv deal they would get, would be pennies from setanta or bbc - no big bucks deal from Sky.

Disaster waiting to happen. Rather see a 16 team top flight as the first division is pretty strong and 4 teams from there into SPL would be a better thing.

SPL 2 will at least give the lower clubs a t the taste of the big time,plus if you think of the clubs that have gone down from the SPL over the last few years all have had to have grounds of SPL standards so it wont be many teams that need to upgrade..and to be honest those lower clubs on the verge of getting into the SPL2 will be more determined, plus with the proposed SPL cup it will mean they will get the extra revenue of having the big clubs at least visit once or twice a year to boost the coffers!!!

SPL 1 is a bad thing...never mind SPL 2 - Now that Jim Sillycunt has left STV - which huge celebrity - apart from Archie & Andy - are going to promote it... The way the top 2 scottish team play - Rangers especially - Why dont they just mix all the leagues together - and make one big Saturday Pub league..

i think the spl should be a 20 team rather than 12 and the other leagues merge together that way smaller clubs can play big clubs like Celtic,rangers,hearts etc and gain financial to clear debts and build there clubs and make the spl more exciting.

It would make sense to amalgamate the two leagues into one if the Division 1 teams are to become members of the SPL.

i think they are taken a bit of a gamble my friend,but the game at that level is dying on its feet under the current leadership/ the fact that they have not managed to get a sponsor for this year must have been a massive let down for the clubs who are struggling to make ends meet,you can not pay out more in wages and expences than you get in at the turnstilles or you would go bust very quickly,i think this is the ultimate gamble for the clubs in question and i hope for the sake of scottish footbal it pays off..

SPL1 is shite, so SPL2 will be shittier.

What they need to do is make SPL1 16 teams play each other twice. 4 times plus cup games bores me half to death by the end of the season.

Not really. Needs a total rehaul of the Scottish system not just cosmetic tinkering.
