With all this exercise and diet technology, shouldn't there be less fat people out there? I don't know about you, but it sure seems to me like they're multiplying. Come on, what do we have to do, tow their asses to the treadmill and tie them to it?

hahahaa.... I think obesity in this country has alot to do with fast food and cheap prices. I pay extra for salad, or fat free foods, when the regular stuff is so much cheaper and Probably tastes better. I know whatcha mean tho... I saw a woman the other day who couldnt fit threw the doors to my office... How awful is that??

Even with all the new technology there is too much push to be sedentary in our culture. The abilities that previous generations had before us cannot even begin to compare to ours. We have PS2s, computers, and so forth. Their fun activities included going outdoors and playing games with their neighbors. As a member of Generation Y, I find it incredible the differences in our appreciation of life. Each later generation seems to be more self-absorbed, particularly when it comes to material things. Generation X and Y'ers are incredibly spoiled and have many resources at our disposal but we aren't quite appreciative or understand the sacrifices that it took to get those things. The same applies to exercise. We take health for granted because we have new medicines being invented all the time and so we assume that something is going to come along and cure obesity without us putting much effort into it. All we have to do if fork over the money for this fat-pill and all in the world will be okay again. And one day, we might have that option. But until then, it's important to understand that eating and exercising go hand in hand when striving for good health. Sitting at a computer all day eating potato chips isn't beneficial to anyone. But to answer that questionably stated final question, I would say that the only way fat or obese people can combat this issue is to find the motivation in themselves. Society can make fun of them and so forth, and in some cases, gives them that push to do what they need to. But for the most part, it doesn't help them because they are unwilling to help themselves. So what I would suggest is that if you know of anyone who is uncomfortable with their size and want to change it, just give them the support they need. But ultimately, the ability of that person to lose the weight and keep it off derives itself from that persons own motivation.

it would seem like there should be less fat people but you answered your own question. the answer is TECHNOLOGY that is what makes many nowadays fat. with technological advacnces it is eaiser to do everything. so everyone sits on there *** and gets fatter. in my town at the middle school there is actually a video game class and it counts for a gym credit. i think that is complete bullshit. humans are proving evolution wrong as we live. over time we should become well adapted to our enviornment. get stronger and get better sense of everything whereas the human race is getting fatter dumber lazyer and so on. sorry for rambling on for so long!!

It has nothing to do with exercise or diet technology, its all about ones motivation, determination and commitment on losing weight. You don't have to tow or tie them, that's rude and so insensitive, all you have to do is to support and motivate them into losing weight. Instead being a negative, try to be a positive force.

I'll tell you why those in the western world are getting fatter and fatter - because they have been encourged to make carbohydrate the primary source of calories. Carbs, specifically starchy carbs such as bread, pasta, rice & potatoes etc. and of course sugar, induce the body to produce insulin. Insulin is directly responsible for locking up existing body fat, and also encourages the body to store as much glucogen (sugar) as fat as possible. Carbs also make you 'hungry' - they are converted into blood sugar very quickly, so you have energy but this is followed by a sharp drop in blood sugar, so your body tells you to 'go eat something to replenish energy'.. You get hungry for sweet and starchy foods, like bread, sweets, chocolate, biscuits etc. which in turn leads to another spike then drop in energy - Get the picture?? Your body is in a perpetual cycle of eating the wrong foods, which are turned into fat, whilst your body doesn't burn existing fat stores. That's why the west is getting fatter, and fatter, and fatter.....!! Remedy = eat more lean protein, green fruit and veg, beans and salad, and keep the sweet stuff and bread etc. down to small portions. You'll feel much less hungry, have less insulin storing food as fat, and you'll have more energy to exercise..!!

I don't know why would want to force anybody to exercises. I mean, if they wanted to, they would. But to answer your question, it's because servings (especially fast food) are getting bigger and bigger, so people consume more calories and fat. For example, the smallest size of french fries listed on some fast food places' menu is medium, even though they do have small. And usually you get "deals" like "for one more dollar you can triple-size it" or whatever. People should just watch what's on their plate...

Some "fat" people can't help it believe it or not. I had a thyroid prob and didn't know it. Got it under control now. Used to weigh 185 now 140 and still losing. Some don't have control over their bodies and some just LOVE the taste of good food. Either way, they are human too!!!! God bless you.

They are called the obese. America is number one in obesity. It is most likely with all the food Americans eat these days that the epidemic will rise. And no, unfortunately we can't make them lose weight.
