it's seems like the number has been greatly reduced over the past decade. is this due to the fact that, as humans, our technology is rapidly approaching a point where evil robots are as common as cell phones or iPods?

The are still some iron and brass steam-powered evil robots knocking around, left over from Victorian times.

I saw one harassing some old ladies at a bus stop the other day.
