Make sure it's in a public area and that the two of you meet at that location the first time and not him picking you up or vice-versa. You don't need to have someone else with you, if you are smart about it. Just don't go anywhere without other people in close vicinity. Some people freak out and think everyone on the internet (or most anyhow) are creepy, looking to harm others. But there aren't any statistics that show you have a greater increase in harm by dating someone from the net than by meeting them the conventional way. So as I stated before, have fun and be smart. Just make sure that both of you are comfortable with the situation.

I did the same thing over 2.5 years ago and now we are set to marry next May. Like others have advised met in a safe place with lots of others around. After you have chatted for a while, maybe have a coffee or something, then perhaps you can go out on your own to talk more privately. Well, under the any circumstances do not give him your exact home or office address... unless after several dates...
Mostly listen... let's him speak a lot... u have to know as much as possible about the person with whom you're dating.
After this... you should decide.. what kind of expectations you have (friendship, long-term relationship, just sex... or what?) and also what kind of expectations he has...
Also, try to put the clothes in which u feel u'self compfortable: for instance if you never tried the hills... not the good idea to wear them on the first date:)

i personally wouldn't meet anyone in person from any internet site, but if you are going to do this, meet in a public place, have a mobile with you, tell people where you are going and organise to call someone by a certain time when you are home so they know you got home safely. just use your common sense. tho my common sense would say "don't go at all".

Tell someone where u r meeting what time dont let them get the drinks unless u can see the drink they are buying at all times. Get a mate to ring u after a couple of hours check u r ok .How paranoid am i?

meet in a very public place, let someone know where you are going and who with and make the first date a daytime meet. Or have someone with you, perhaps not sitting with you but keeping an eye on you till you let them know it's OK.

be safe don't let him pick you up drive yourself you can never be too cautious and also make sure that someone knows who you are with and that you have your cell phone so that if you need to call anyone you can or if you need to get out of the situation you can I have went on many dates with me from the inter-net and its okay to do as long as you look out for yourself also be yourself and have fun just know that like any other date it can not be safe and it can be the best time of your life

If you are meeting him at say 7.30, have a friend call your mobile at 8. If hes really awful, you can say it is your mum and the cat is alight, or something equally convincing, then run like the clappers.!!

You should take a friend with you on the first date. Safety first, plus you'll get an honest analysis from your friend afterward.
