If you have a local store that specializes in selling bird feeders and seed start there. A lot of times they carry binoculars and field guides. Its good to be able to try out binoculars before you buy them.

Be careful when you buy your binoculars. They are a big investment so you want them to work well for birding. Not all binoculars are good for birding! There is a web page called Betterviewdesired.com that has reviews and good advice about buying. Eagle Optics also has a free guide on binoculars available. Of course they also sell binoculars, but they will send the guide with no obligation.

I live in Texas so I dont know any stores where you are. Sorry about that!
