Ok lets set the record straight here, I see a lot of older proclaimed Wiccans answering questions related to being Wiccan on here but why aren't you setting the others straight. Wicca is NOT ancient. It is around 70 years old. It isn't just becoming popular, it has been popular since its conception. The reason many ppl believe it to be old is the fact we take a lot of ideas from the old ways, ie. Shamans which happen to be one of the first religions. Wicca isn't older then Christianity, but Paganism IS. Paganism was around 2000 years before Christ was even born. I have been practicing Wicca for almost 7 years now but I research everything thoroughly before I jump into anything. If there are any questions reguarding my statement please pick up ANY book by Scott Cunningham or Ann Moura. Either author is very very good.:) We have major problems in our religion related to Fluff bunnies as we like to call them. They make us look bad. We are not the Charmed Ones, we are human beings.

Just like anyone else. I happen to be a natural born witch which just basically means I am developing the extra gifts I was born with, ie. empathic. 99% of people on this planet HAVE special abilities, most ignore them, don't know about them, refuse to believe they exist, or as a child have them then grow up and become socially acceptable by "forgetting" they can do special things. Its a hard fact of life. But that is just the way it is.

Oh and for any Christians that reply to this save your gospel for some one else, I do not want saved. And doesn't your Bible say do not preach on deaf ears but go somewhere else where you will be heard?

You are pretty much right on. Wicca is just a recreation of what is thought to be ancient practices. There are very few records of what actually the ancients did practice. We have carry-downs of some of the traditions - the seasonal celebrations - and some of the mythologies but not a lot of actual evidence of what they actually did. Some witchcraft traditions have been passed down for generations in families but you can't tell just how far back that goes. You also get a lot of assumptions all witches are Wiccan which isn't so either. I am a natural witch like yourself, not Wiccan but sometimes use that term for convenience. I've see the statement "true Pagans" are white witches, or follow the rede. All Pagan refers to is those not in the mainstream religions - Christianity, Jews, Muslims. Most Satanists I know even classify themselves as Pagans as even though the name refers to a Christian figure they really do not worship the Biblical Satan. It seems Paganism has been around for about as long as people have been able to express themselves- some of the cave drawings 40,000+ years old have shamanic and mystical figures.
Most of the fluff bunnies are usually pretty new to (usually) Wicca and I think are mostly just excitied and in some cases a little misinformed. Wicca is a good place to start and a lot continue throughout their lives on that path, but I found it wasn't exactly what I was so continued on a different path.

Thank you for setting the record straight. Though I am not Wiccan, I can certainly appreciate the frustration of someone claiming to be a part of a group, and not really knowing or even understanding what it is they claim to be. Understand though that this is common in all religions, in all groups, and in all faiths. You will always find that someone has twisted the truth, taken it out of context, or simply lied because it suits them. I suppose the most important thing is not to be ignorant or intolerant of other people's beliefs (Wiccan, Pagan, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or otherwise) and learn what we can from each other. You may not think so, but there is a lot to be learned from those of a christian faith, just as there is a lot to be learned from those of a pagan faith. Kudos to you attempting to make us all a little less ignorant of your beliefs. May you be blessed. :o)

I think people need to do a little more research. If they're older, one would think they look that up. (Unless they haven't been practicing very long.) As for the thing about being a natural-born witch, I am also one. The only gifts I know I have are some type of empathic power and foresight.

I don't have any really brilliant answers for you...
Just that I know that paganism and Wicca are often confused. A lot of people don't really understand the difference, and they WON'T-- until they take the time to educate themselves about it.
I'm sorry for all the horrible "Christian" responses you've gotten. They are scared. You are different, and that scares them. They just need a reason to look down on you... which is horrible. It's so far from what their faith tells them to do.

Like this is something new? You are right. Wicca was defined publicly in the 1950s but it draws it traditions further back. The rest is subjective speculation at best, depends upon interpretation. But, thank you for pointing it out, I am sure there are many who are unaware, and we do tend to forget the wider audience. But who said we wanted to go mainstream anyway? But ... even Cunningham says in Wicca the power can be dangerous, and if you don't advise as such, then .... well ... what can I say?
