Is it possible to pass any other birth defects to your child if you had nephroblastoma as a child.

It is possible to pass it on to a child because nephroblastoma is linked to a mutation in the WT1 gene. It also depends on the type of treament undergone, a person treated with radiation and chemotherapy may be sterile.

All cancers are genetic as all cancers are an abnormal genetic response in the cells - DNA is not functioning properly and the "make more copies" signal can't be shut off (without treatment). You might be at risk of passing this on to your child, but your child might also win the "genetic lottery" and not get it. You need to have her genetically tested for the illness if there is a test, and if this really concerns you. My guess is that your child will be just fine. As to your long-term side effects better ask an oncologist. Good luck!

I'm no expert but my guess is anything is possible. I'm surprised you are not sterile after chemo and radiation however. One thing I've learned about cancer is that one just never knows.

I'm sure the cancer organizations would have some statistics for you.

No it is not hereditary and I see no reason for any side effects now.
