I would lean towards dangerous. It shouldn't even be a question. If you had one lung would you smoke?

I'm doctor of physics, working in MRI. I discovered I only had one kidney whilst looking at my own images after undergoing an MRI scan to test the system.
I will pass on the advice the many medical doctors gave to me at the time: Go and get very drunk. The Liver deals with alcohol not the kidney. And while there are health risks associated with alcohol, there is no increased risk associated with just having a single kidney assumming, of course, that the remaining kidney is healthy.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Drinking with one kidney is not a great idea. An occasional drink maybe, but drinking several drinks is bad for your kidneys. My mother, sister, and I all have polycystic kidney disease, my mom is in bad health, about to start dialysis. If she drank, it would be very bad for her health.

The remaing kidney hypertrophies and can take on all the work. Alcohol in reasonable amounts should do no harm.

It's your liver that breaks down the alcohol, it doesn't matter if you have one or two kidneys.

Yes you could drink but why would you?

Why risk it? It is not necessary to drink, and if you go out you could order a virgin mixed drink and no one would know...
