Travel, as with many other things, is an evolutionary process. If you have no experience you should start with travel agencies. More than a couple of them also. Get a feel for what you are being told. Personal experience comes with time. What type of cruises are you interested in? Singles? Adult oriented? Family oriented? Destination oriented? I've been thru the evolution. It's fun. I prefer destinations. The ship is my hotel, restaurant, transportation and entertainment. Level of service you want/expect varies also. Get opinions; ask people "What do think of Holland America?" and other lines.

I have taken 2 and they were on different cruise lines. Comparing the two, Celebrity Cruise line had better service and I felt better taken care of by their staff than Norwegian Cruise line. Celebrity did have some specific formal dinners where you dress up and you would sit at the same table and be served courses so if you don't like that sort of thing don't choose it. It was interesting getting to know our servers because they are from different countries and are your server the entire cruise. Celebrity also had a better system of disembarking than NCL did.

First decide where you might want to go, what part of the world or country. We like the NCL as you are not forced to eat ever mel at the same tabel at the same time each day.

they r really fun! its like staying at an allinclusive hotel. you get food, room service, activites, casino (have to pay), spa (have to pay extra but cheap price),ect. it is awsome. there is always something to do. you can never get bored and there are no worries of where do eat or where am i going to stay. plus, they are ruffly around 100$ per night per person for an average room. the rooms are small but all you do is keep your stuff in there, sleep, and shower. its really fun. believe me.
