Oh my, I would certainly hope not!

The unpaid parking tickets would be the responsibility for the driver/owner of the vehicle when the parking violation occurred.

If you should happen to get contacted to pay up these tickets, you will have to provide proof that you were not the owner of the car at these times, nor the driver. Make sure you provide copy of sales contract and title registration, and make sure that both items list the previous owner.

Hope that helps!

Tickets are in the name of the owner of the car when they were written. As long as both they and you have completed the paperwork to transfer ownership of the car properly you will not be responsible for them. That's the reason that the seller has to complete a notice of sale, that way if you got tickets before you transferred the title the seller would not be responsible for them.

that might be a problem if you dont change the car into your name and put new licence plates on it. Come out and see the Denver Boot bolted on your car not good. The tickets are the previous owners violations of parking law. The police just know the car by plates, color and vin number.

The car doesn't have tickets, the former owner does. The registration transfer should absolve any problems if you are buying through a dealer. If you are buying from an individual, the owner will have to resolve the problem with the dmv prior to the title transfer. If you are buying from a relative, there could be sticky issues to deal with, but you should not have to pay for someone's stupidity.

I don't think the former owner would be able to transfer the vehicle without paying any outstanding tickets or warrants first. I'm pretty sure the DMV would have a kind of lien on the vehicle, preventing him from disposing of it.

Tickets should be in the name of the person who owned the car when they were issued, but it sounds like a question you need to ask the vehicle registration folks.

You'd be a fool if you do. You can produce your car documentation as proof you were not responsible for the parking tickets.

Friend, cars do not receive tickets; people driving cars receive tickets. Would you be asking opinions if the "car" received a huge inheritance?
