I had to have my spleen removed after it ruptured from a car accident. My situation is probably a bit different from yours--mine was emergency exploratory surgery and they had to deal with a few pints of blood that I had hemorraghed as well. Yours sounds like it is a planned & controlled surgery.
This means that your surgery will be a lot better than mine-- so don't worry too much.
When you wake up from surgery you will be hooked up to a morphine drip, most likely. It will have a button near your hand that you can push to get more morphine when you need it-- it only lets you self-dose every few minutes so you can't overdose-it's not possible. I was pretty out of it after surgery for a few days so I wasn't able to think clearly.
Have you ever had anesthesia before? Ask if they can give you something during surgery to help reduce the nausea afterwords. I threw up everything for 10 days, even water. I didn't have that anti-nausea during the surgery, unfortunately.
The people here are saying you will be fine--and you will. But they don't realize that when you have your spleen removed it is going to hurt more than most surgeries because it is a gastro-intestinal surgery--they have to cut through your core, where there are a lot of muscles & nerves. Coughing and throwing up *really* hurt me for many days.
My recovery took longer than average due to the emergency surgery and my pre-existing conditions of rheumatoid arthritis (so I had a longer time to get over it and get back into walking around normally). It will take you awhile to recover--but within a few days you will start feeling a lot better. I think it is 3 months before you can fully resume _strenous_ physical activities, if I recall correctly. But that doesn't mean you can't do normal activities before then!
Treat your scar with vitamin -E lotion. It should help it to heal better.
For my operation they put in staples, and then on top of that gauze bandaging. They will change it regularly, and eventually take out the staples and put on Steri-Strips instead. It's sort of like tape & bandaids rolled into one.
It's been two years since I had my spleen removed. I am alive, and thankful (taking the spleen out was the only way to save my life), but I get infections a lot more often now, unfortunately.
I wish you the best in your surgery. :-)

I had a friend who had her spleen removed. She said she was a little sore after it but not too bad. She is fine now but she has to be careful because the spleen helps to fight infections. So after you have yours removed please eat healthy drink lots of water and you should be fine. I hope this helped you. Don't worry you will be OK.

Once you go under, you don't feel a thing. I haven't had my spleen removed but I've been through other surgeries. You'll be fine.

I haven{t had mine removed, but I know people who did. Usually it is because of trauma, but it can be removed for blood disorders like low platelet count (Idiopathic thrombocytopenic peurpura) or red blood cell disorders like sickle cell anaemia.
It didnt hurt lots because pain control is a big thing here. All the people I talked abot are fine
