Not if you take the time to get your bicycle properly sized and adjusted to your body. FIT is the most important thing you can do as a cyclist to improve your performance, mileage being the second.

Check out www.wrenchscience.com and use their bike fit calculator. Or go to a good bike shop and pay the fee ($100 ballpark) to be professionally fitted. It's worth every penny!

Practically everything you can do, can adversely affect you in one way ,or another. So, what is the alternative, just lie there in a vegetative state and wait to die?

Only if you ride through potholes often and overall if you aren't wearing a supporter it could severely affect your cajones (balls) and even render you impotent.
