A more accurate translation of the commandment might be "thou shalt not commit murder", rather than "thou shalt not kill".
Christians have been killing and soldiering ever since they were first recognized as a State Religion, by Constantine, in the early 4th Century.
Constantine syncreted Christianity and Mithraism into the Early Church. Before a major battle, he saw a sign in the Heavens; A cross with the revelation "In Hoc Signo Vinces", the Latin term roughly tranlating to "By This Sign, Victory". Both Christianity and Mithraism used crosses, albeit of differing types.
Constantine's mother, St. Helene, was a Christian, his father was not. Constantine, contrary to perception, did not become a Christian until his death bed. This was common at the time, because those that sought to be Christians feared retribution if they sinned, or erred, after becoming Christians.
Constantine did cause the Roman Empire to accept the existence of Christians, who were one of many persecuted minorities at the time. The Church really began to stabilize at this time, and St. Sylvester was the first pope selected by the Church. St Peter was already recognized as the First Pope, through appointment by Christ.
Not "everybody" troubles themselves with others' sexual preferences. I am Heterosexual(you capitalized first), but as long as innocent children and/or animals are unmolested, am more concerned with my own behavior than that of others.
Remember: "Judge not, lest ye be Judged".

Fighting for your country is NOT against the commandment you are referring to. Look up the Hebrew word that the English word "kill" replaced. It means to "murder". A person who sneaks into a house at night and kills someone is a murderer. When armies mutually engage in combat, for whatever reason, fatalities that result from the clash is not murder. God Himself told the children of Israel to enter the lands He was giving them and kill EVERYONE! It was a military matter. Those who were living in those lands had been sinning against God, and the children of Israel were the method God chose to punish them. God would not command people to break a commandment, so you have to look long and hard at your understanding of the commandment.
I am a former soldier, and I am a Christian. I have absolutely no problem killing the enemies of my countrymen. In combat, it is a fight for survival, and you fight to protect your fellow soldier. You give it all you have to save the men around you. They do the same for you. If you've never been a soldier, this may be difficult to understand. But it's a fact of combat.
Don't get confused between "kill" and "murder". Two very different things.
As for "killing" being ten times worse than homosexuality, well, we may try to assess different levels of "wrongness" when rating sins, but scripture does not support this with these particular sins. The thing to remember is that the punishment for murder was death, and the punishment for homosexuality was death. God Himself said that homosexuals were an "abomination". Sodom and Gomorrah learned this the hard way. The deviates who lived there died, by the hand of God. You'd think people would learn something from history.

God says that there is a time to kill and a time to heal, a time for war and a time for peace. There are times when killing is justified, so yes a Christian can be a soldier.

I'd say auntb93 missed the point.
No, Christians can never be soldiers and be true to their faith.
Turn the other cheek. Thou shall not kill.
By the way, our soldiers are not fighting for our freedom. They are fighting for the corporate freedoms of America.
My heart breaks for these soldiers who've been lied to.

Your question is can Christians be soldiers? YES they can, you also bring up Homosexuals, I will answer both of your questions, about Christians soldiers & also Homosexuals, First Christians Soldiers, In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 To every thing there is a season, & a time to every purpose under the heaven. 2: A time to be born & a time to die, a time to plant & a time to pluck up that which was planted. 3: A time to kill & a time to heal, a time to break down, & a time to build up. 4: A time to weep & a time to laugh, A time to mourn & a time to dance. 5: A time to cast away stones & a time to gather stones together, & a time to embrace & a time to refrain from embracing. 6: A time to get & a time to lose, A time to keep, & a time to cast away. 7: A time to rend, A time to sew, A time to keep silence, & a time to speak. 8: A time to love, & a time to hate, A time of war & a time of peace.---- Too many people try to use the 10 commandments where it says thou shall not kill, if we try to use that commandment out of context, then we have to also look at it as this also, what about that rabbit you ran over with your car, or what about when someone walks out in front of your car & you could not avoid from hitting them & they die, did you break that commandment? NO,, So then we have to look at that commandment thou shall not kill, as meaning thou shall not kill for your personal gain, for instance as a robbery, ETC. or just to kill someone just to be doing it., Now to your part about the homosexuals, there is several verses I can use, but you can look up the ones I don't mention. Read Romans 1:22-32, you can read it all, I am going to skip around to shorten it. 26: For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections for even the women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. 27: And likewise also the men leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust one toward another, Men with men, working that which unseemly & receiving in them selves that recompence of their error which was meet.28: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. Verse 32: Who knowing the judgement of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, (Now I am not saying WE go out & kill them, NO, Aids will do that.) not only to do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Read 2nd. Timothy 3:1-3 Verse 3 says Without natural affection----- Now I have heard so many stories that homosexuals are born that way, NO THEY ARE NOT, to prove that according to scriptures 1st Cor. 6:1-11 But I will only write verse 11: And such were some of you, but ye are washed, but ye are santified, But ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, & by the spirit of our God. So now on your question, Those Christian soldiers are not commiting sin as you said, let along 10X more then homosexuals. Now if you don't believe in the Bible, my answer will not help you. But if you do, you can study these verses yourself. Are we to kill homosexuals, NO, their own sins will do that through things as AIDS. They bring that upon themselves. If we take scriptures out of context, & kill a homosexual, then we are doing that for our own gain, that is wrong. That is Murder. I hope this has helped you some.

Certainly; the Army and all the services have strong non-discrimination policies. If you are ever turned down by a recruiter on the basis of your religion, you should file a protest as a matter of civic duty. They are supposed to recruit without reference to religion.

There is somewhat of a misinterpretation of Thou shalt not kill. What it is meaning is that Thou shalt not commit murder. There is a time and a season for all things. There shall be wars and rumors of wars. Murderers and homosexuals can be forgiven but they must repent of their sin. Repent means to change.
