A person may have been an atheist and may not have known God at all, but all of a sudden how is he going to turn to God if he does not know him. Faith does not come at a spur of a moment. Faith has got to be built up. But on the other hand,we can pray for the departed souls, and those in need, that those unbelievers and unsaved may come to know God and see light through Him. The only way to help them is to seek them instead of them to seek the teachers.

Actually, you didn't quite word your question right. It probably should have read "Ever noticed that EVERYONE turns to God when great tragedy happens?"
I don't think the chapels were filled with unbelievers only when 9/11 happened. My entire congregation met together but there were so many people there that many had to come to the 3rd and 4th services.
Tragedies along the line of the disasters you talk about bring everyone to a place in their lives where they either don't comprehend, can't comprehend or refuse to comprehend the need for another in their lives. WE can talk to our friends, we can talk to our co-workers, we can talk to our classmates, but to grieve we need to go higher than ourselves.
I don't know if unbelievers are any more affected than the believers when this magnitude of disaster happens but I pray they will seek a more personal relationship with God when it does. If they do not, then they will find another coping mechanism. But remember, it is not just "unbelievers" who turn to a "higher power" (I call Him Christ) in times of national tragedy.

You're pretty desperate to believe this kind of thing, aren't you? And look at the several people here who said that they think that atheists secretly believe in god. Why does it disturb you guys so much that there are people who don't believe in your god? I've got a feeling that your belief isn't quite as solid as you're trying to pretend that it is.
There was an interesting study a while back showing that children can tell the difference between adults' claim that germs exist and adults' claim that gods exist (sources). It seems that even children are able to pick up on this "doth protest too much" effect in adults' insistence on the reality of their gods.

Jesus cried even as he heard about his pal Lazarus demise and observed Martha and Mary's grief. i have self assurance God also cries on the incorrect selections people have continually made consisting of even as Adam and Eve first sinned and further those issues to the suited earth God had created. God, inspite of the undeniable fact that, did not opt to create puppets who might want to no longer make their personal selections and so allowed the sin to go back, as a effect. fortunately, God's tremendous love presented an destroy out from sin and a sinful existence by technique of sending Jesus Christ to die for the sins human beings all. perception in Jesus supplies you the wish of heaven and helps us to flee this sin-plagued international, yet in the period in-between it is as a lot as us as Christians to instruct this international round.

Perhaps then that is why HE allows such things to happen as everyone asks. Think of how many people re-evaluate their lives and belief system when a major catastrophe occurs. Maybe that's GOD's variation on shaken baby syndrome. IF you never have a reason to question your faith and see how it withstands those tests, then are you really a believer due to thought or a believer because you let someone else do the thinking? I think GOD's slogan should have been....go Bible and leave the thinking to ME. As I said in another question, even the apostles disagreed occasionally. If they can mess up then I guess I can too. But they came to GOD because of true conviction not indoctrination. I think GOD prefers it that way.

Yes, people tend to turn to him only in times of need...That is human nature....
As far as being an x-atheist, you should have more compassion and understanding for the atheist.....Don't mess with God? Isn't that a rather provoking attitude?
Be careful of becoming hateful, like some of your other Christian counterparts....

No, I never noticed that. I don't do that. 9/11 happened because of religious morons. I turned to my family for comfort. Columbine happened because some kids got harassed and bullied constantly. Kind of like what you're doing. I didn't turn to anybody for that because I didn't care about it that much until religious zealots started to blame music and movies for that. Why are you posting tons of statements about unbelievers? Obsessed much?

So are you saying that you want bad things to happen to good people so they will see it your way? Nice.
I feel that people turn to god during disater when they feel the need for a crutch. Nothing more. It is pure psychology.

Really? I've had bad stuff happened to me. Really bad. I never ever had to rely on god to get me out of it.
Of course, you never hear about people like me because we don't go about bragging that we didn't need help from god to get thru stuff.
9/11 and Columbine were not the work of the devil. Get real, they were plans of mad people. Executed by mad people. Period.
Mad people have been around forever, they'll be around forever. Get use to it.

There is no way you could every say that every unbeliever turns to deities. That is a fallacy as you could not possibly know every unbeliever and what their own personality or situation is like to make such a statement. Generalizations do nothing to contribute to society.
