The British suffered:
68,000 casualties including
34,000 captured
9 destroyers and 200+ smaller vessels sunk
177 planes shot down
But over 330,000 men were rescued. An amazing feat!
As for the Soldier's Creed, I don't think something has to happen to one country for another to learn from the mistake.

Thats part of the reseason the Army is stern on not leaving a soldier behind....
The Soldier's Creed:
I am an American Soldier.
I am a Warrior and a member of a team.
I serve the people of the United States and
live the Army Values.
I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills. I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.
I am an expert and I am a professional.
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.
I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
I am an American Soldier.

Dunkirk was the location of the evauation of the BRITISH Expedidtionary Force from FRANCE. I do not believe any other nations are mentioned in that simple statement of fact. Least of all Americans who joined the war 17 months later.

Thats why everyone on the South Coast who had a boat rowed over there to pick them up. When I was a kid, many of the beaches on the South Coat would have an old boat pulled up above the tide line and the name painted on it was always 'Spirit of Dunkirk'.

If i remember right, my old history teacher told us that only one group was left behind, and that was deliberate due to them being a commando brigade. We didnt leave our lads their, we tried our hardest to get them all back, hence the 'miracle of dunkirk'
NB
To the American. Dunkirk was a British military feat, with joint French support. It has nothing to do with the 'American Creed'

never underestimate the ignorance of the american mind. not only was the us army not at dunkirk, both the army and marines leave their fallen casualties behind and in recent times too its all part of the myth because marines left their fallen at chosin reservoir and in vietnam.
