Yes there a free version of Beausofts Netcam Watcher.
I use it for an IP camera, and it first class.
It has motion capture and mpeg compression to avoid filling your hard drive ;-)

i will tell you why
because it will take a huge space from the hard dick

but you can do this
connect the computer to a VCR recorder , and then record
or - i am not sure with DVD recorder- but give it a shot
