yes, you are using the battery .... BUT...... it will take a very long time to use up ALL the battery so as long as you eventually turn on the car (which will recharge the battery) you will be just fine.

After all, people in the UK leave their parking lights on all night and can still start their car in the morning and those lights use at least as much electricity as a little old radio.

Yes the battery is in use whenever anything electrical in the car is on. The "on" position on the car is where the car usually runs so all elctrical systems are activated and using power from the battery. This includes all lights, the radio, and your wind shield wipers. All of these run off the battery if the car isnt running but uses the alternator when the car is running.

As others have said yes of course your battery is used when you are in the on position and listening to your radio - BUT be aware that other functions might be on as well that are draining on your battery - example - your daytime running lights and or your headlights might automatically come on - (in my car my headlights auto come on in the on postion). I really didn't realize that this was happening in just the on position and thru a few people using my car during breaks at work and listening to the radio and such (putting electric windows up and down etc) they ended up draining my battery. But my mechanic pointed out the battery was low but also with the headlights running that was a culprit too. I have now installed a new battery - but not sure I want to test it lol

Everything in the car consumes battery power. However, the radio alone consumes so little that you would never notice it. I have accidentally left my satellite radio turned on all weekend without driving and the truck started normally.

Yes it does, you ditz, and if you left it on that way long enough it would drain the battery completely. The dashboard clock also uses electricity and will drain the battery, albeit at a much slower rate. If you want to drain the battery really fast, turn the headlights on when the car is not running and see how long that works.

I have the feeling you will be making a lot of roadside calls for tow trucks.

Yes it does drain your battery even if you have no accessories on because once it is on the on or start position all the computers that control the car are working and are waiting for the car to be started.
