I think Mel Gibson is someone he has always been. A very talented actor and a Catholic who rears his family in the Catholic tradition. Some of the money he made from the movie Passion of the Christ went to his church to build another sanctuary. As you will recall, none of hollywood thought his movie was good enough to back so he paid the bills himself. How was hollywood supposed to know that it would be a blockbuster. There were rumors back then that Mel would "never work in the industry again because of the movie he was making." Well, he made the movie, he made the millions and hollywood came courting.
The media is what made the big deal out of this whole episode. Can you tell me the names of any other drunks arrested that night for DWI or DUI? No--I doubt seriously that you could. Were their comments made first page news in any other newspaper in the country? Some cities have police blotters listed in the local papers but they only give the name and address. With Mel Gibson we know the name, date of birth, address, city, state, make of vehicle, how fast he was driving, the size and color of his underwear. Give me a break.
The man said some stupid things. The man said he was sorry. And NOW people are saying HIS APOLOGY WASN'T SINCERE! I am blessed knowing that there are so many people in this world who can tell when someone is telling something from their heart. My, it is gratifying to know that it really doesn't matter whether he really meant it as long as they spell my name right when he disavows and apologizes for his stupidity.
Does anyone know a "smart" person who is arrested for DUI? I don't know anyone like that. So, let him go through rehab---let him sober up and soberly face the media who are out to "crucify" him. Then, let God be the judge of his heart. I don't have any standing in that area. So I will accept his apology and get on with life. It was never any of my business other than to pray for him anyway.

Gibson was born in Peek skill, New York, the sixth of ten children born to Hutton Gibson and Anne Reilly Gibson. The family also adopted a child, bringing the total number of children in the family to eleven. One of Mel's younger brothers, Donal, is also an actor.
Gibson's first name comes from a 5th-century Irish saint, Mel, founder of the diocese of Ardagh containing most of his mother's native county, while his second name, Columcille is also linked to an Irish saint.[2] Columcille is the name of the parish in County Longford where Anne Reilly was born and raised.
Although Gibson always maintained his United States citizenship, he lived in Australia after a victory on the TV game show Jeopardy! by Gibson's father. The family moved in 1968 when Gibson was 12. This move was in protest of the Vietnam War for which Gibson's elder brothers risked being drafted. It is also because Gibson's father believed that changes in American society were immoral. Early Gibson films feature a distinct, noticeable Australian accent.

If I'd gotten drunk and mouthed off, no one would have cared, except me when I sobered up. It should have been the same way for Mel Gibson. He's a human being and as such he will make mistakes; he will not be perfect. The world doesn't own famous people; the media just likes to trash them if they have a tiny bit of Christianity in them.

I think he is an average human being, with faults and problems like everyone else. It's just that society holds celebrities to higher standards, and expects them live a "picture" perfect life. If an ordinary Joe got pulled over for drinking and driving and said some stupid things, nobody would have gave a damn, really....
I hope nobody reports you for this question, lol. Look at what I've been getting away with ;)

No one knows who truly is good or bad. Your brother might be an axe murderer but you would never know. Sometimes we think that we know people because we see them in a couple movies, maybe they make a good one sometimes. But when it all comes down to it, who are they? Just an average Joe or Jane. How can you judge someone's soul that you don't know? We all make mistakes. What is the basis for judging someone a good or bad person? Their deeds on camera or life? I do love his movies, as well as many others. But could I tell you whether that person was truly a good person when I know that so many other "good people" looked good but turned out bad? Again, what is the basis of of good person? Are you a good person?

He is a vile racist filled with hatred in his heart, no self-discipline and a foul mouth. To those who say "Don't we all say something stupid when we're drunk?", I usually find myself being more openly affectionate, giggly and more responsive to other people's jokes. No quantity of drink would make me abuse Jews, blacks, homosexuals, women, men, Americans or Mel Gibson. His apologists apparently see nothing wrong with racism. Presumably they do not object to people expressing hatred for whatever group THEY belong to (women, men, Americans, Christians etc) when they are drunk? I doubt it.

He's a good man, he got drunk and said some stupid things that he regrets saying now. Like I said once before, if he wasn't a celebrity no one would have ever heard about his comments or his night on the town.

Mel Gibson is a drunkard and the Bible says drunkards should be stoned to death in Deuteronomy 21:18-21.
Mel missed what the Bible really says, that two thieves named Jesus were crucified as the King of the Jews, and Mel worships Jesus with that ugly, drunken, distorted face of the Devil.
Mel is Demon-possessed and will ugly away with that alcoholic grin on his face.
Mel worked his passion of Christ for John Paul the Dribbler when Mel should have named it Passion of Jesus the two, you know who.
Only the wimps and whingers will report you. They think Yahoo Answers is their Sunday School.

Tell me...imagine some politician or other public figure you're not a fan of is involved in the same type of incident - drunk driving, hateful remarks towards an ethnic group. Would you rush to defend his or her actions in the same way?
