I do not seem to get my priorities right. For example, on the Internet, I tend to forget the main task and get carried away by other diversions. I would welcome practical solutions and suggestions to feel more motivated to accomplish my main tasks.

If you're easily distracted, that's a big problem. I would write down a list of important goals. Do one at a time, do it very well, and move on to the next priority. Save the fun things for last. Motivation begins with action and is sustained with accomplishment. The more you accomplish, the more motivated you will be to continue taking on new tasks. The reward is knowing you succeeded in accomplishing your goals. It's self sustaining. Laziness occurs when you are satisfied in putting things off. But things pile up and you get frustrated. I prefer to work hard, get things done, then take my leisure afterward when I feel that sense of accomplishment. Kinda like dessert after a healthy meal.

'Nuff said?

I can also get distracted when I'm on the Internet, but I've downloaded a "speaking clock" (called 'Say the time') for my computer. I have set it to tell me the time every 15 minutes. That helps me keep a check of how long I am spending on the Internet, and makes me go to bed at a sensible time instead of staying up all night, surfing. You can also set it to flag up reminders at a certain time (so, for example, if you need to phone someone at a particular point in the day, you can get the computer to remind you when it's time to make the call). Check it out - you can download a trial version for a month, before you have to pay (I think it was about £15).

1) Get organized- for most people, you can loose a lot of time looking for things you need.

2) Use a timer- for the internet, tv etc.

3) Keep a diary of your current routine for one week, then develop a realistic schedule from it. Add some extra time into the schedule for unexpected events.

4) Stick to your schedule once you develop it.

5) Do not procrastinate. If you need to do something at a certain as part of your schedule, then do it.

I would keep a notepad or steno pad nearby, and write down all the tasks that need to be accomplished, preferably in descending order, and refer to it often as your doing various tasks to try to stay on track. Also a PDA can handle the job as well. You can't break "bad habits" (such as getting easily distracted), but its a matter of retraining yourself to stay focused. I would perhaps employ some of my suggestions, and make a conscious effort to stop doing distracting things. Good luck! :)

Good job flunkywoman, I like that.

If you're having problems on the internet: make a card 3x5 index card with task on it and put it on the screen someplace so you have to see it. Then while you're surfing, you notice the card and it reminds you what you have to do.

If it's arriving at places on time: set all clocks and watch ahead by 30 minutes or so ( the time you arrive late) So every time you see the time you'l think it's later than it is

Strat each day by taking 5 minutes to write out all of the tasks you need to do that day, prioritise them, decide which is more important, what can be delegated to someone else, and what can be left, pin the list up next to your workstation and work your way through it, ticking them off one by one as you achieve them

just think about it for a moment, there are 168 hour's in a week,24 hours in a day. when you wake in the morning keep a journal of your day in 15 minute incriments. at the end of the add up the minutes wasted on frivolous matters and that should tell you what you need to improve on.

Make a list of the things that you need to do and number them in priority, then work through the list in order of priority.

Make a list of the things you have to do on any given day, and don't start looking at porn until you've finished them.
