The best way forward is to report them without answering/ acknowledging their questions. If there's no response there's no fun for them, these ppl thrive on controversy. If it becomes boring they won't bother trying it on as no one is responding to them.

There are big problems in this area if you go to the religion section and post a question that is not a christian statement it will be reported by fundamentalists, if you are persistent and post anything other then a christian statement then the fundamentalists will report you until Yahoo remove you. These people Atheists, Muslims, Agnostics etc then come back after creating a new account and become much more offencive as a result of the Christian extremists action. Yahoo needs to do something about this. actualy reading what the report was for wuold be a step in the right direction as obviously they don't do this.

For a while, I was clicking the "report abuse" button every time I saw something offensive. But, since I was having to do that many, many times, I decided to do it only when I saw something really offensive. Recently I've just given up, because it doesn't seem to do any good. Some of the questions are so obviously obscene that I wonder if the moderators ever even read them. I'm not even talking about nasty words with an asterisk here and there; I mean disgusting words and phrases spelled out, correctly, for everyone to see. It's too bad, really, because it spoils a lot of the fun of Yahoo Answers.

Moderating such a popular 'community' is a really tough job, and Yahoo! do what they can.
You can moderate it too, to some extent. Voting 'thumbs up' for good questions and answers, and 'thumbs down' for those that aren't very good helps make sure the frontmost questions aren't pointless.
If you see any inappropriate or offensive content, there's the option of reporting that post and person to the moderators.
As I said, moderating something like this is hard work; and can only be done successfully if members like yourself make use of the features Yahoo! have implemented.

The question is why do people get violation reports or even suspended when they have done nothing wrong. Yahoo should suspend those that make false abuse reports

Then why do you stay? Or, ask for your money back?
Ignore the ignorant people--the internet provides a false sense of anonymity for these sad people. Pity them.
mentally unstable people don't understand the concepts of privacy, decency and basic common courtesy. A forum like this can't weed out all of them, it's too large and too public.

Yeah i agree. Everytime i click on all catagories, there is some racist, sick or perverted question. I guess they don't want to pay more people to moderate the boards.

As someone's already said, there are just too many users for it to be effective.
