Have a thin tumbler very dry and warm. Put a few sprigs of fresh mint into the tumbler with a tablespoon of sugar and fill the glass 1/3 full of bourbon, brandy or rye. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved, then fill the tumbler with shaved ice. Put several sprigs of mint into the tumbler and serve when the glass frosts over on the outside. It is improved by shaking a little rum on top of the ice just before serving. Be careful when handling the glass not to disturb the frost.

In a Collins glass, place the mint leaves and syrup. Mash the leaves and add 1oz. of the bourbon. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add the rest of the bourbon and stir well. If desired, garnish with a mint sprig
